"The Animal Song" was written for "The Other Sister" soundtrack, it also featured on Savage Garden's Affirmation album as well as their Truly Madly Completely: The Best of Savage Garden. It was Savage Garden's first encounter with Walter Afanasieff - a producer well-known for his work with Mariah Carey - who would later produce the Affirmation album (and also Darren Hayes' first solo album, Spin).

The video for this single featured Hayes walking through a parade and was directed by Jim Gable

The song is often named as a favorite among members of furry fandom.[1]

"The Animal Song" became the group's second Canadian number-one single, topping the singles chart for three weeks, from March 27, 1999.
