The four musicians who have been friends since high school and have played in various Cape Town punk bands in the past, got together in late 2004 with aim of making something fresh, and new to them as a band but more importantly to the local listening public. After jamming together and embracing various styles of music, The Allstar Funk Four (AF4) was born. Their sound is such that it continues to evolve as new styles of music are discovered by its four prolific band members. It allows freedom of expression for these four talented friends.
The Allstar Funk Four’s Influences Range from “The Red Hot Chill Peppers” to “System of a Down”, and also includes the likes of “The Bloodhound Gang”, “Grand Master Flash” and “The Beastie Boys”
When asked what his aspirations for the band were, 19 year old Guitarist "Arjuna" answers: "To have a good time, all the time and carrying on making my favourite music with my favourite friends."
AF4 won 2005's "Last Band Standing" Battle Of The Bands which is an achievement unto itself as well as having opened for Bed On Bricks.
In early January 2006 after more than half a year of jamming and playing shows the band released their debut EP, entitled "Party Rocking" (Produced by Wilding Penderis) which proved to be a success, receiving frequent airplay on South African University Radio Stations. The track "Get Your Groove" reached number one on the samp3.com chart.
