The Alliance of Jewish Young Adults

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Alliance of Jewish Young Adults was a youth group established in Cleveland, Ohio, in 2000. It's purpose was to extend an authentic Jewish conscience throughout the Cleveland Jewish community through various outreach activities and community involvement.

The Alliance primarily grew out of attempts to reform other groups which had failed to make a significant Jewish right wing social contribution to the Cleveland community.

The group's intention was to serve as a prototype organization for other communities where Jewish identity amongst various sectors of the Jewish community was found to be lacking. Ultimately, the group's goal was to have itself endorsed as an official organ of the Jewish community establishment in order to fully exert its influence as a credible, staunchly right wing Jewish organization.

[edit] Mission Statement

The group's direction is best summed up through its creed, drafted by advisory board Chairman Bernard Arshenovitz:

To encourage a position of political and cultural nationalism. To emphasize that as Jews, we are a nation; and a race. A noble people with a common history and a common future. To stress pride in our heritage and contributions to mankind. To establish a standard for conduct, a conscience, both on a community level and individually, based on the ethics of Jewish law. To not only require, but to demand of those who identify as Jews, a sense of collective responsibility. Finally, to have an uncompromising expectation of each other; that our performance demonstrate our worthiness to be Jewish.

[edit] Ideology

The Alliance maintained a principle based ideology that broke down into five points, each with a specified meaning:

Pride: I am a Jew of noble heritage. Self respect begins with the recognition of my identity.

Accountability: Self respect demands responsibility for all things Jewish. I am responsible to change all that I can for the better.

Integrity: I do not compromise my sense of accountability. I do not sway from my responsibilities.

Worthiness:The value of my principles are evident though my example. My example establishes a standard of conduct among my people. The standard I project elicits a conscience.

Unanimity: We are required to establish a shared understanding of our principles amongst our group and our people.
