The Alaskans

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Alaskans is a 1959 television series set in 1890s Alaska featuring Roger Moore as "Silky Harris" and Jeff York as "Reno McKee", a pair of adventurers dealing with the Yukon gold miners. The Alaskans often used scripts recycled from Maverick, another Warner Bros. western series also on ABC-TV at the time, and Roger Moore actually moved over to Maverick to play Bret Maverick's cousin Beau Maverick the following season, after the cancellation of The Alaskans. Dorothy Provine played "Rocky Shaw", the series' female lead, and Ray Danton portrayed "Nifty Cronin", another Alaskans regular. The show only lasted one season and is mainly remembered today as an early launching pad for young actor Moore, who subsequently played Ian Fleming's character James Bond in films after Sean Connery and George Lazenby had relinquished the role.
