Absynthe Magazine is a student paper at Trent University produced by Absynthe Media. It was established in 1999 by Ken Giffen, Brad Harkness and Peter Read. Absynthe does not have a political bias because the articles are written and submitted from members all across Trent's campus. The magazine was started as a conversation between Brad and John Cooley (with a little push from David Powrie). John (RIP) was an inspiration, as was the 'Roundtable.' Matt Griem maintained and perservered through its second. Mention should also be given to Linda Watson (C.O.), Reg Sims, Gavin Finders, Stephen Gouzopolous, David Powrie, Roboticus (Kevin Sorichetti), Peter Venetas, Matt Keyes, Kirk lilwall, Kelly Elliott, Bronwen Appleton, etc. "Without them...this brief moment in social absurdity wouldn't exist".

Absynthe Magazine has since received funding via student levies and become an important part of campus media. Absynthe Media receives a $4.00 (refundable) levy from each full-time student. ($2.00 from each nursing/part-time student).

Absynthe Media also produces a radio show and is interested in getting involved with other forms of media on campus. Although the publication looks like a newspaper, it is not. In 2003, the organization formalized and created an executive board and a publication team. The executive board consists of the president, editor, secretary, treasurer, member representatives, while the publication team is made up of the editor, soliciting editor, publication manager and publication assistant.

Todd Parker and Ted Cragg were the major shaping forces in the publication's history.
