The 40/40 Club is a series of All-American sports bar and lounges owned by hip-hop mogul Jay-Z and partners Desiree Gonzalez and Juan Perez. The name is related to major league baseball, and the rare individual feat of recording 40 home runs and 40 stolen bases in a single season.

The New York City location on 25th Street opened its doors to the public on June 18, 2003. Created by the three partners, the 12,000 square feet, $4 million multi-level space includes a 24’ x 8’ slate bar, a 16 foot wide staircase furnished with sleek seating on the steps, 15 LCD TVs, 8 plasma TVs (three of which are 60”), four 12’ X 12’two-sided big screen TV’s, a premium cigar room and three private VIP rooms. Two of the VIP rooms, the “Rémy Lounge,” named after Rémy Martin, Jay’s cognac of choice, and “Jay’s Room” (24’ X 16’ each), are fully equipped with their own personal entertainment centers, 60” plasma TV’s, Italian leather wrap-around couches, all controlled by their own touch-screen remotes. Each room can hold up to 70 people for private parties and events. The third VIP room, The Hall of Fame room, is 46’ X 20’ and can hold up to 150 guests. The cigar room is state of the art and complies with all New York State smoking laws. (http://www.the4040club.com/index.cfm?menuitemid=116)

Jersey City natives DJ Thoro and DJ Tre are the resident DJs at the club, appearing at the club on its busiest nights, Friday and Saturday. Hip-hop including Jay-Z material and old school can be heard on these nights.

Jay-Z notes his investment in his 2003 song "Dirt off Your Shoulder" with the line "Now you chillin with a boss bitch of course, SC on the sleeve at the 40/40 club ESPN on the screen." The video for the Swizz Beatz produced Memphis Bleek single "Like That" was filmed at the club.

The 40/40 Club also has a location in Atlantic City, New Jersey and plans are underway to open similar clubs in Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Singapore and Amsterdam.
