[edit] Fansites

I think some more "fansites" should be listed.

  • MATY especially, as this place offers critical bugfixes and mods for TS2.
  • Insimenator which hosts one of the most productive modding communities
  • Sims 2 Workshop another productive modding community

Thoughts? -- Jordi· 08:22, 8 December 2006 (UTC)

  • No. They add nothing to the article, and we already have the 2 biggest fansites listed, as well as a list to a site which lists pretty much every other fansite. Adding additional sites does not benefit the article in anyway.--Crossmr 14:06, 8 December 2006 (UTC)
Neither do the two listed at the moment. By your logic we should list none. Your resource site (dmoz) does not list more than 20 such fansites by the way, with none of the trhee above even present. -- Jordi· 15:46, 8 December 2006 (UTC)
As far as I'm aware the official site already has a directory for fan sites. --Mig (Talk) 16:45, 8 December 2006 (UTC)
  • The number of fansites should be limited to one or two per WP:EL. (Though EL's text has changed recently.) If this becomes an issue, then all fansites should be removed and we should link to a third party link aggregation site like DMOZ. --Kunzite 19:54, 9 December 2006 (UTC)
  • How can you say that the two listed sites are the biggest? Why not a list of sites that have custom content downloads for the game? That would actually contribute to the article. The one i think of is TheSimsResource (the biggest costom content archive of all) but there are other good custom content sites out there as well -- CJNE 12:46, 5 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Screenshot

I added a screenshot to the article, and removed the request for same on this talk page. Jerry lavoie 20:36, 2 January 2007 (UTC)

I removed the screenshot. Not only was it in a really bad position its extremely old and out of date. The interface doesn't look anything like that anymore. That must be a pre-release promo shot. Its not really informative.--Crossmr 02:22, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

Oh, I can fetch one for you in a moment! I've got bodyshop screens too, do we want those? Kuronue 14:32, 19 January 2007 (UTC)

There is a screenshot of a child becoming a teen, do you still want another? I added a bodyshop shot. Kuronue 14:47, 19 January 2007 (UTC)
Just look through the article and if you see someplace that is particularly baren of images, add an appropriate one. The article could really use more. — Frecklefoot | Talk 17:15, 19 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Unnecessary Information

Removed unesssecary information - stop editing back please. It is blatantly obvious by 74.104.202.163

^ And some anonymous editor keeps removing the completely relevant illustration with information of the homosexual couple. Sims can BE gay and OR straight. Furthermore, this anonymous editor does not realize that my notes underneath the photo is the FIRST mention of this fact in the entire article. Stop removing it please. ResurgamII 16:06, 4 February 2007 (UTC)
^ and someone keeps adding COMPLETELY irrelevant info. THE SIMS 2 is NOT a game about sexuality, please create another TS2 branch if you really want to split heads over TS2 genes and whatnot. We will keep removing it until you add it in a branch off of this article (like a new page specifically for Sims genes FTW) or have some actual info we can use (What sort of cheats can you use? What are these 'recolors'? etc... —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 68.91.50.77 (talk) 16:31, 14 February 2007 (UTC).

^ Irrelevant info? Obviously in your opinion. Sexuality is a major theme in Sims as it tries to reflect real world daily life. And who's "we"? There's only you doing the removing. ResurgamII 22:38, 15 February 2007 (UTC)

I don't think that cheats should be included in the game. There are sites for that, perhaps an external link would be more appropriate. And I second the vote that it is important to list sexuality in the game so that people researching the product know that it mirrors real life. Stop removing stuff that makes sense; there are plenty of other articles that need that, but this is not one of them.

[edit] Grilled Cheese Aspiration?

Isn't there an aspiration that's like a glitch or an easteregg in the game called grilled cheese aspiration that comes with Nightlife? Let me know! —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 67.142.130.49 (talk) 00:09, 6 February 2007 (UTC).

That aspiration does come with Nightlife. [1]. It is mentioned in the Nightlife article. --Hintha 04:24, 18 February 2007 (UTC)Its not a glitch. If you stick you head in the renuyu senso orb in green aspiration you get the grilled cheese aspiration.

[edit] software

Why does the PC game, The Sims 2, has four CD-Rom? Other games has only one CD. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Coffsneeze (talkcontribs) 18:38, 19 February 2007 (UTC).

Because different games require different amounts of Data.--Crossmr 18:47, 19 February 2007 (UTC)
Not all have one CD, University has two. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 62.136.41.218 (talk) 23:23, 3 March 2007 (UTC).

[edit] Wikibooks Gameguides

I've noticed that the Sims related articles tend to get a level of detail in them that goes well beyond that of an encyclopedia article and delves into the realm of game guides. To that end I've created a page over at wikibooks which takes that kind of material. Wikipedia already includes a template: Template:Wikibooks for handling this. If you find any material which reaches this level, feel free to transwiki it there and leave a note for the person who added it that that is where its gone and that that type of material is more appropriate there. Any article that you transwiki material off of, should have a template added to it. I've already added the template to the Seasons article and I'm going to go through and clean out the excessive detail.--Crossmr 21:27, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

If anyone needs help in setting up these templates on various articles feel free to ask, I think I've gotten the hang of it.--Crossmr 21:42, 4 March 2007 (UTC)
I've completed transwikiing University, Nightlife and Seasons. Pets and Open for business still need to be done, as well as the base game. Someone may also want to have a look at the article on Sim (Maxis Sim games) as there has been some concern that that article as well is slipping into minutia and trivia.--Crossmr 23:00, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Similarity between Sims 1 and 2 expansions?

Did anybody else notice that the Sims 2 expansion sets mostly mirror those of the predecessor as far as concepts go? There's a downtown, pets, etc.

Does this deserve a special mention? Other games sometimes tend to incorporate the features added in expansion sets for predecessors in sequels, so I was a bit surprised to see that pets were already added in a The Sims expansion before The Sims 2 Pets was conceived.

Regardless, the article seems to fail to mention that the game mechanics introduced in expansion sets are cumulative in newer releases: one expansion adds a mechanic, the next one includes that mechanic and adds more stuff. This can lead to many "disabled features" if one does not purchase the expansions in order, e.g. a disabled "Downtown" and "Campus" button as well as an non-selectable but fully implemented Pleasure aspiration if only OFB and the base game are installed (which, of course, acts as another incentive to buy earlier expansions: get rid of all those placeholders). — Ashmodai (talk · contribs) 12:08, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

It would be original research to draw a conclusion like that. Unless you can find a reliable source which is speculating on this. I have heard that theory several times, but only in unreliable places like forums and blogs.--Crossmr 17:56, 10 March 2007 (UTC)OFB and University are original.

[edit] "Girls Stuff" Overruns Custom content hosts

Should this be added to the article? girls aged about 14 - 15 always adding custom content that really makes it outnumber male creators stuff. i play the game, im male, but girls are always uploading girly sims, i cant find anything on download pages because of it. should we send a warning out to these girls obsessively uploading elves and silky skintones? --Coolspanner 02:34, 30 March 2007 (UTC)
