I thought he was called boneless because he slumped in his chair and has gone all soft. He's no longer a warrior so his body has gone "boneless." Also, there is a point in the book where Ivan stands up to the queen in front of the whole court, so I would hardly call that "royally whipped."
Also, saying that he is whipped is an opinion, not really a fact of the book.
