Is there any symbolism in Ushi's palm tree?

It looks as though as a phallic symbol or a symbol of strength and dominance. It might serve as a metaphor of Ushi being elite or "bigger" (socially and at heart) than Ichi. Debt Jr.

At the end of this episode doesn't Lil' Slugger look like a "light at the end of the tunnel?" And why did Lil' Slugger attack Ushi? Does that mean he can attack someone for the sake of getting someone else backed into a corner? --Debt Jr.
