[edit] Christian influence

is there anyone who can find information on the fray as having christian influences? that's a widely held rumor, and they are a "christian" band, or at least are christians themselves, but that hasn't been addressed (either to confirm, or deny) in the article

  • The Fray are pretty popular with Contemporary Christian audiences, especially since all of the members went to Christian academies. However, they say that they don't intentionally write for a Christian audience [1] Teemu08 05:07, 22 August 2006 (UTC)
I added the CCM Wikiproject tab on the top, primarily because the Fray does play on some CCM stations, and are a part of the project. Casey14 17:13, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
I removed the CCM - I plan to do so on the project to. If the Fray say they don't do christian music - then who are we to say they do? That's insane. Daniel()Folsom |\T/|\C/|\U/|(Can you help me with my signature?) 17:35, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
Being a part of a certain wikiproject does not mean that they are a part of the genre. They Fray's music plays on CCM and Christian Rock stations. They are also charted on CCM and Christian Rock charts. Those two criterion both qualify them for the CCM Music Wikiproject even if they say they are CCM or not. They are important to the project, and a part of the project, thus the link to the project will stay. Casey14 23:56, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Comic Book

Has the Fray(Band) become more popular than the Fray(comic)? Perhaps the disambig. page should be rerouted.

Whats the precedence? the earlier work? most searched work? most popular? (72.174.2.252 07:36, 12 March 2007 (UTC))

[edit] Failed "good article" nomination

This article failed good article nomination. This is how the article, as of September 23, 2006, compares against the six good article criteria:

1. Well written?: Good here. But what is "other" under discography? Other what? DVD? single? Music video? Podcast? In the singles chart, the individual chart names should be in small print (<small>)
2. Factually accurate?: Superb. Very well referenced.
3. Broad in coverage?: OK here. The band is still so new. Most bios or band pages have a selected events section. Can you have a section with other itmes, like arrests,, charity events, etc...
4. Neutral point of view?: yep!
5. Article stability? This is hte biggest area of failure. A good article should be perfect as is. However, this has a whole section named "Current events." Thats another way of saying "This section is is going to be obsolete soon." While most articles about people require regular updating, every effort should be made to phrase things in a way that if it were neglected for a while, a reader wouldn't feel like the article sounds dated. For example, this sentence needs updating "On September 19, they will release a CD/DVD set with exclusive content." The current events section should be merged with the section "How to Save a Life (late 2005–early 2006)" and that section should be just be named "How to Save a Life" Most band life cycles are one album or tour to the next.
6. Images?: good.
I addressed the above suggestions aside from the the "selected events". Since the band is still pretty new, there haven't been too many major award nominations, charity events, or other stuff of that nature. Should such things happen, I'll add a section for it, but I think the article should wait-and-see as far as that's concerned. Thanks for the input, though. Teemu08 03:34, 28 September 2006 (UTC)

When these issues are addressed, the article can be resubmitted for consideration. Thanks for your work so far. --Esprit15d 12:28, 23 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Good article nomination

This article seems to be right on to me, but it lacks enough references in the How to Save a Life section. Fix that, and I would pass it. -- Cielomobile talk / contribs 00:33, 29 September 2006 (UTC)

  • I cited what I could. If you need me to, I can dig up the charts on all of those Billboard peaks, but no one would be able to see them without a subscription anyway. Teemu08 01:22, 29 September 2006 (UTC)
    • You don't necessarily need to dig up the charts, but if you could refer to some kind of source that verifies its chart positions, that would be nice. If that's done, I'll definitely pass it. -- Cielomobile talk / contribs 01:49, 29 September 2006 (UTC)
      • Fixed Teemu08 02:33, 29 September 2006 (UTC)
        • I feel it now fits the criteria, and it is now listed as a Good Article. Congratulations, and thank you for your work! -- Cielomobile talk / contribs 02:39, 29 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Is it just me?

Or do they sound exactly like Coldplay? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 71.219.87.96 (talk) 04:21, 27 January 2007 (UTC).

Its just you.

[edit] What happened?

I came to see this article a while ago, and it had tons of fan sites dedicated to the Fray. Now I can't find them, where'd they go? Bmerkl 22:56, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

  • Agreed. The link I just posted was a fan-supported page that was deleted. What gives?
    • Wikipedia is not meant to promote fan websites. Per Wikipedia:External Links, only official websites should be linked from articles. Teemu08 03:23, 29 January 2007 (UTC)
  • Interesting so what do you think about the Metallica page? There is a lot of non-symmetrically related websites on there...thoughts?

Most of the other band pages in the "Good Articles" section have fan-related pages. Also, many have other related articles not fan related. Is there a specific reason these are excluded here? Bmerkl 18:12, 7 February 2007 (UTC)

There are plenty of mistakes on Wikipedia pages - does that mean that we should purposely do them on every page? No. Don't add sewage to the already polluted pool.Daniel()Folsom |\T/|\C/|\U/|(Can you help me with my signature?) 21:25, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Alternative Rock

A while back the genre was listed as "Alternative rock". Now it's "piano rock". While The Fray are undoubtedly piano rock I think they are sufficiently influenced by alternative that they should have alternative listed as a genre as well. The biggest alternative influence is in the vocals, and the guitars (when they are present) also have a tinge of alt-rock in them.24.238.218.27 23:44, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Proposed move

The Fray (band)The Fray — per Wikipedia:Disambiguation, an article that has significantly more usage than other similarly titled articles should be the primary topic. Almost all wikilinks for The Fray are intended for the band

[edit] Survey - in support of the move

  1. Support per nom. Teemu08 16:11, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Survey - in opposition to the move

#Oppose - there are plent of famous titles that have to have the parenthesis (in this case, (band)) after them because there are multiple pages with the same name. While some pages use a different method (you may be refering to ...) - this article may not be more popular than the other options - and even then, I thnk that there's not enough of a reason for a move here. Linking shouldn't be a problem - all you have to do is type: The Fray(band) - you could do either: The Fray ([[The Fray (band)|The Fray]]) or, again, just [[The Fray (band)]].Daniel()Folsom |\T/|\C/|\U/|(Can you help me with my signature?) 21:34, 12 March 2007 (UTC) #: Not that many links are meant for this page - see Special:Whatlinkshere/Fray (the comic book - the last item and the disamb. page) and Special:Whatlinkshere/The_Fray_(band) - this page's. There's not that much of a difference at all! While a good number (probably meant for here) go to the disamb. page, it's still not huge enough I thinkDaniel()Folsom |\T/|\C/|\U/|(Can you help me with my signature?) 21:34, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

  1. Oppose while the band's popularity is certainly rising as a musical flavor of the mon th, Slate's forum is well known and has been around a lot longer. There is no evidence that the band is going to be more then an one album wonder and there is certainly no evidence that it is a primary topic over Slate's forum and the comic book series. Now if the band demonstrates any longevity then it might eventually and distinctly distinguish itself as Primary. But it is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to soon for that. For all we know, they could be out of vogue by the summer. 205.157.110.11 22:22, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
Well - honestly if it was just between the forum and the band the band would have it easy - check out the differences in wikilinks (or even a google test - while the fray forum has more hits than the fray band, the fray forum pages are all dedicated to the music group.Daniel()Folsom |\T/|\C/|\U/|(Can you help me with my signature?) 22:36, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] more Detailed Proposal

Due to the overwhelming popularity discrepency (as proved by the google test) - I propose that we:

  1. Delete the Disamb. Page - replace with this article
  2. At the top have the typical 'You may be looking for the fray forum' line

Daniel()Folsom |\T/|\C/|\U/|(Can you help me with my signature?) 22:36, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Support

  1. Support per nom. Teemu08 16:11, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
  2. Support as I am the nominatorDaniel()Folsom |\T/|\C/|\U/|(Can you help me with my signature?) 22:36, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
  3. Support as I am the nominator. Though it appears I didn't go about it the correct way, it was nonetheless nominated and I am in support. "The Fray" refers to The Fray the band and wikipedia should reflect that. When someone says The Fray, they are rarely referring to a short-lived comic series. 72.174.2.252 12:06, 13 March 2007 (UTC)
Your suggest a different proposal, it's not that you went about it in the wrong way - it's just you had a few diff. details, but i will remove your proposal since obviously you support this one.Daniel()Folsom |\T/|\C/|\U/|(Can you help me with my signature?) 15:37, 13 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Oppose

==Ok - since there have been no oppose votes I'll go ahead and do this.Daniel()Folsom |\T/|\C/|\U/|(Can you help me with my signature?) 17:36, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

It doesnt appear to have been done. was it reversed? If I knew how to do it, I would. 72.174.2.252 05:09, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

It's been done ... the disamb. page was deleted ...Daniel()Folsom |\T/|\C/|\U/|(Can you help me with my signature?) 05:56, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

it seems that only "the fray" has been moved. I assumed that the move was for "fray" as well, since nobody searches for "the" anything. they just type the word they are searching for, and in this case, fray should refer to fray (the band).

Just a note - please remember to sign your post. But I did not move "Fray" to "The Fray" - since the former is a popular comic book - before this page was "The Fray (band)" and "The Fray" was a disam. page.Daniel()Folsom |\T/|\C/|\U/|(Can you help me with my signature?) 02:43, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
See the main conflict was whether the fray should compete with the fray (forum) - but really ... I mean the name of the band is "The Fray".Daniel()Folsom |\T/|\C/|\U/|(Can you help me with my signature?) 02:44, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
