Talk:The Fair Store

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I have created a new page for The Fair Store, as I found there is no such page existing already and it may have had several firsts in the Discount Department store catagory - odd prices I.E. 99cents instead of round numbers, and several statements about lowest prices or discounts dating to the early 1900's, prior to all the other mentions of early discount department stores being started in the 1950's. Any input is welcome and requested, if an earlier example exists and additional information on the Fair Store

I did some cleanup on this page, but it still needs a lot of work. It's kind of sloppy workmanship to put "I don't know" in a Wikipedia article, in my opinion. Also, I don't think The Fair was sold to Wards in 1957, unless Wards retained the name - Courtland Center in Flint had The Fair store from 1968 until the 1980s. 68.188.191.9 13:11, 14 February 2007 (UTC)

I take that back. Apparently the Fair store in Courtland Center was an unrelated chain. 68.188.191.9 13:15, 14 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fair Store

Located only a few locations in the Chicago Market, I have found some info that is not posted here. Not sure on any legality issues on if I can copy a picture from the Internet (copyrighted web-site) Chicago Jazz Era has photos of the store and a book that I have. I still need to check on added info to update the site. Kidsheaven 23:55, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

It was last owned by S.S. Kresge, same owner as Kmart prior to selling out to Montgomery Ward - I don't know if it is possible they ever used the name in Michigan with that being Kresge/Kmart Headquarters in the time period? From my reading, I understood that it may have even shared merchandise with Kresge stores, and was sold out to Wards when Kresge/Kmart became the dominant part of the company in the Chicago market.Kidsheaven 23:59, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
The Fair store I mentioned in Michigan was almost certainly different. There was another in Lansing. TenPoundHammer 02:07, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
