Wouldn't The Guiding Light also be a religious soap opera? Rmhermen 22:13, Aug 27, 2004 (UTC)

My point is that this show was religious for its whole run. Even by 1962, The Guiding Light had stopped being "religious." Also, TBD's main family was clergy/clergy-related. The Bauers were God-fearing folk but they weren't THE religious family.
Also, GL had religion factor into the show (Rev. Ruthledge and all) but it wasn't a central theme like TBD relied on. In fact, I'm pretty sure the keeper of "the Guiding Light" (which, by the 1950s, was Papa Bauer) didn't mention it much at all...to the point where it just stopped factoring into stories.
For the most part, GL was religious only for its radio years. The religion was still THERE but it was always implicit and it would be so until Maureen Bauer in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Mike H 00:19, Aug 28, 2004 (UTC)
