Talk:The Blood Brothers

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Isn't the vocal style the other way around? With Jordan Billie having the high high voice?

Definitely not. Blilie does the low parts and a lot of the screaming. On the recent single, Love Rhymes With Hideous Car Wreck, that's Jordan singing "These tire tracks..." in a kind of low muttering. Johnny is the one squealing "The car accident, the skin graft treatment..." insanely high. Stephen 14:10, 14 May 2005 (UTC)

[edit] New album?

It appears on their website that the Blood Brothers have started recording a new album. Does anybody have any more information about this? It should probably be mentioned in the article somewhere.

I added a little bit of information to the releases section about it; that's all I've been able to find on the Internet about the new album. Chris Berry 18:03, 10 June 2006 (UTC)

The recently released EP (Love Rhymes With Hideous Car Wreck) comes with a sticker inside. The back of the sticker says "NEW CD COMING: FALL 2006" So at least we got a release date... 75.4.198.45 16:00, 15 June 2006 (UTC)

Have just added the title for new album to the discography as reported on billboard/drowned in sound/others Jammus 13:37, 7 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Original research

This article is awful, it is not at all scientific and includes a lot of original research. It used to include many blatant opinions but I removed some of them. Someone please cite this article or remove the statements with "Citation Needed" next to them. --Stellis 05:01, 9 June 2006 (UTC)

I am confused as to why you have some things that can be noticed by actually listening to their albums (such as the evolution of the higher-persons voice) marked for needing citation. The idea you have makes it seem like you would mark trivial words such as "the" and "is" as needing citation. For example, look at Underoath. Not every other phrase is cited. I think your demands would lead to a case of over-citation. --Resonant0ne 15:28, 10 June 2006 (UTC)
Guess what, buddy - this is an article about a band, it's not like you can do scientific research about it. I removed most of your citation needed markings, because it interrupts the flow of the argument, and even if all the citations were made, they would be pretty much worthless, citing the same articles over and over. I cleaned it up and left only a couple of places where citations are needed, places where it would help the article to have some background. In the future, there should be discussion here on the talk page about it before making such drastic changes to an article. Chris Berry 18:00, 10 June 2006 (UTC)
  • Scientific research can be done about anything, and the word scientific as I intended it means that it is all true and verifiable. Wikipedia says about original research:
Original research is a term used on Wikipedia to refer to material added to articles by Wikipedia editors that has not been published already by a reputable source. It includes unpublished theories, data, statements, concepts, arguments, and ideas
That means that you cannot make any disputable claims about a band (and yes, it is very hard to cite articles about bands). This includes discussing the genre and making statements that are opinion rather than fact (The band makes wide use of...). Also "Things that can be noticed by actually listening to the album" are original research because you yourself are listening to the album. --Stellis 07:10, 13 June 2006 (UTC)
Much agreed, this article is very poorly written and largely comprised of 'original research'. --Furste 20:15, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Homosexuality

I have read on the Internet that a member or members of the Blood Brothers (possibly Jordan?) is/are openly gay. Can anyone confirm this, and if it is confirmed, make an addition to the article?

Jordan currently has a girlfriend. He is not gay.

I dont know how old this discussion is but I do believe at least one member is openly gay. See this old interview - it seems to suggest it.

especially this

When we interviewed you last year, you mentioned how on the Glassjaw tour, you guys encountered a bit of homophobia...

Yeah.

I'm pretty sure it's the drummer, looking at their set - one of Mark's drums has the gay pride rainbow around it. Not that we can use that as a source, but I can't find anything on the internet to site it.

Its not really important if anyone is gay. Unless they say it in an interview, it doesn't belong on the article, and even then, just a line in the trivia section. Whoops, yeah I said this Olliemilne 00:33, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

It is likely that the homophobia they experianced was based more on audiences' reaction to their appearances than the band's actual sexual orientation. I have personally witnessed Johnny being heckled and accussed of being gay (which he isn't). The following bit from an interview with Jordan seems to go along with my line of thinking:

"Of course. You know, it’s like when we did that tour with Glassjaw last year, I was in awe of some of the mentality of the kids going to the shows. It was sickening. And one night I was pretty wasted or something and I was like I love you guys and I love being on tour with you guys but your fans are fucking awful. Because every third night or so you would hear “get off the stage fag” it was horrible, like the lowest common denominator you could ever imagine. And the way that we deal with that is, we don’t take shit. We’ll flip shit back, embarrass people and make them feel stupid. We’ll like blow kisses, rub our crotches even more, hump each other, whatever, suck on the microphone. You know all the stuff we normally do when we play on our own we just exaggerate it. Or just stare at kids. When they are talking shit you just stare at them, and it forces you to confront them personally. You know we will always confront it head on, there’s no place for it. Bands that don’t stand up have no right playing in a band if they are not going to confront that mentality. "

[edit] Love Rhymes With Hideous Car Wreck

It's now an EP as well as a single so I removed the redirect, someone should make a page on it.

[edit] "is a vegan"

Johnny Whitney. I'm gonna change it to "is vegan". it's not like he is a totally different animal because he is vegan.

[edit] Characters

This is a really interesting point - but needs cleaning up before it can be put back on the main page.
In the first three albums, and fantasy tale of piano island with many characters is incorperated via metaphors. The story starts at 'this adultery is ripe', and ends at 'burn, piano island, burn'. Somebody has yet to document the entire story in lamen's terms.

[edit] Trivia

Add back when somebody knows the song -

  • The song "Kiss of the Octopus" contains a breif sample of a Nine Inch Nails song.

[edit] Acts toured with

Do we need this long a list? The Blood Brothers don't ever seem to stop touring so it could get a little ridiculous. It is even need at all?Jammus 14:47, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

-Yeah, I've been watching this list get longer and longer for about a year now. Its pretty pointless too, you could write a similarly huge list for any band. I think the lists original intent was to show how they toured with acts who you normally wouldn't expect them to tour with due to a percieved vast difference in style but over time people have carried on adding their favourite bands and the list is redundant. I'm cool with removing it, I'll do it at some point if noone else does. Unless anyone can come up with a good reason to keep it... Olliemilne 18:03, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Johnny Whitney & Amy Carlsen married

Couldn't find any other mention of Whitney and Carlsen being married except for the article itself. Change back if anyone knows better and add source. Ta xxxJammus 10:12, 26 January 2007 (UTC)

- I know for a fact they're married, this month's Rock Sound magazine makes reference to "his wife amy carlsen". I'm not really sure how to go about adding magazine based sources on wikipedia, if you do its Rock Sound, Issue 93 (Feb 2007) page 39. This is also the first real confirmation I've seen of them being married, but I've heard people online refer to them as such for a few months. At some point I'll learn how to source this properly and then readd it if noone does it first. Olliemilne 16:27, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
Ooooh. My housemate has been late in buying Rock Sound this month. So it's his fault I deleted it :) Not sure how best to cite it. Is [Cite Journal] correct? Jammus 10:22, 27 January 2007 (UTC)
