Street Fighter: The Movie (retitled Street Fighter: Real Battle on Film for its Japanese console release) is a 1995 fighting game based on the 1994 movie based on the hugely popular fighting game Street Fighter II by Capcom. The game used realistic, digitized graphics, trying to capitalize on the success of Mortal Kombat. The original arcade version of Street Fighter: The Movie was developed by Incredible Technologies. A drastically different home version was developed in-house by Capcom and published by Acclaim outside Japan.

[edit] Gameplay
The game came in two forms, the arcade version and the home version released for the Sega Saturn and the PlayStation. Both games used digitized graphics, a bulk of the same characters and many of the special moves from Street Fighter II. The similarities would end there.

[edit] Arcade version
While Capcom put their name on the cabinet, they had virtually nothing to do with creation of this game. Incredible Technologies designed all the animation and stages and created all the music. Controls for special moves are modeled after both Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat. For example some moves are used by doing down, down/forward and forward (D, DF, F) and punch or kick on the control stick. Other moves are done by just doing forward and forward (F, F) on the control stick as done in Mortal Kombat. The special moves and super moves are added to familiar characters with the MK style of activation. Some of the moves involve characters using weapons that were not featured in the movies or original games. There are also three types of super moves, Blue Super Combos which are the original super moves, Red Super Combos, more damaging moves that usually are activated with Mortal Kombat style moments on the control stick and finally ReGen, a move that recharges the player's life bar. This was the first Street Fighter game to have more than one super combo. The game's cast is Ryu, Vega, Guile, Sagat, Ken, E. Honda, Chun-Li, Cammy, Sawada, Balrog, Blade, Bison, Akuma and Zangief. Arkane, F7 and Khyber appear as secret characters. Super Bison is also a secret character, but cannot be selected without modifying the game's code in some way.
[edit] Home version
Capcom and Acclaim did the console versions, drastically changing the game from what it appeared as in its arcade counterpart, including music and stages. They also used Japanese voice actors that sounded like the voices of the original characters. Capcom also reprogrammed the game engine making it very similar to Super Street Fighter II Turbo.
Differences in the character roster include:
- Blade and the palette-swap Bison troopers are gone
- Akuma is now a hidden character
- Blanka and Dee Jay are now added into the mix
[edit] Home Version Modes
Movie Battle is an additional game choice where the player can play as Guile. The player is given choices of places to go by Cammy facing other Street Fighters, eventually reaching Bison in one final battle. Movie Battle has no limits in continues if the player loses, but like in the movie, Guile's working with an expiring time limit. In this mode, you will not fight yourself, Cammy or Sawada (presumably, he is working with Cammy).
ACT 1: Shadaloo City
As Guile, the player, together with Cammy, must find information as to where to find Bison's hidden base. Taking one of two choices, you will encounter another Street Fighter character (with varying agendas) and must defeat them in combat. If you lose, Cammy will say, "Are you OK? C'mon, Colonel. Don't give up!" and you must fight them again, having lost some time. If you win, that character will give either another path to choose or more information on where to find Bison's base.
Backdrops: In front of AN headquarters, AN boating docks, outside the GNT news van, AN prison compound, Black Market marketplace, Black Market tent, Vega's fight pit
Possible opponents: Balrog, Chun-Li, E. Honda, Ken, Ryu, Sagat, Vega
Upon gaining enough information, this act ends. The Deputy Security will appear at the base and order a ceasefire; they will pay Bison the ransom and gain the hostages' freedom. Cammy urges you to take this lightly; Bison cannot be paid for his crimes.
ACT 2: Bison's hidden base
Disobeying the Deputy Security, you and Cammy find Bison's hidden base and must continue to search for Bison, a one-on-one showdown may be the only thing to end his reign. As you choose one of two paths, you remain hopeful to find Bison, but instead encounter one of his mercenaries, and you must defeat them to proceed. If you lose, Cammy will say, "Are you OK? C'mon, Colonel. Don't give up!" and you must fight them again, having lost some time. If you win, they (obviously) don't help you, but Cammy will collect more information and provide another path.
Backdrops: Shadaloo jungle, Dhalsim's Laboratory, rubble in the base, dark catwalk, Bison's private living quarters
Possible opponents: Blanka, Dee Jay, Sagat, Vega, Zangief
Once you are close enough to the central control room, Cammy will take her squad to free the hostages, while you deliver the beatdown on Bison.
ACT 3: Guile vs. Bison
In this final act, you must eliminate Bison (at this point, the timer will stop). Defeating him once isn't enough; he is resurrected and you must defeat him again, this time with his "Super" bar fully charged and will not deplete (this means Bison can use his Super Scissor Kick through your Sonic Booms, so be careful).
Backdrop: Central Control Room
Opponent: Bison
Success: (to achieve this ending, you must defeat Bison before the hour is up)
Bison's defeat gives you the good ending, where a cinematic shows Guile defeats Bison, rejoins with the heroes (and Zangief) and the fortress blows up. Cammy congradulates you, and Guile is named a hero. Shadaloo City is then rebuilt from the war-ravaged nation to be recognized as a symbol of world peace. The player is then treated to the music video "Something There" by Chage and Aska.
Failure: (to achieve this ending, the hour must expire before you find Bison)
As the payment deadline arrives, the outcome of your last fight will result in Cammy telling the player there is no time left. The AN is forced to pay Bison the ransom, Guile gets court martialed and Bison uses the ransom money to finance his operation to mass produce his "Perfect Genetic Soldiers" (which originally started with Guile's friend Blanka) and Bison then uses them to conquer the Earth.
Street Battle gives you the opportunity to play as any of the movie's characters (with Akuma hidden). You must fight your way through 8 of the movie's characters (the remaining two you don't fight) before you fight the game's bosses.

Your character: Stands in their "Dizzy" stance.
A fair score:
Announcer says: "I'm told, next battle!"
Your character: Stands in their "Time Over" loss stance.
A good score:
Announcer says: "Great record! You've got it!"
Your character: Stands in their "Win 1" stance.
A high score:
Announcer says: "You are the martial arts master!"
Your character: Stands in their "Win 2" stance.
[edit] Rumors
Only 18 characters appear in the arcade version of the game, though many rumors came up speculating there to be more. The only true hidden character that can't be selected normally or by a code is, in fact, the boss version of Bison ("Super Bison"). If one cheats to control him and beat the game, they'll get Blanka's ending from the game, suggesting that Blanka was planned for this game, but cut ultimately. Digging through the game's data with artmoney or MAME's cheats has not yielded Fei-Long or hinted character Snake as playable characters (Snake actually seems to be nothing more that an attempt to spread a rumor, much like the "Kano Transformations" gag with Mortal Kombat).
There is, however, a secret debug stage in the game, which shows the characters on a parallaxed white floor, and debug numbers on the screen. This stage can only be reached through MAME cheats or artmoney.

[edit] Trivia
- Dhalsim, Fei Long and T. Hawk are the only characters from Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo who are not playable in either game. Dhalsim does not appear as a character because Alan Noon, one of the creators of the Arcade Game, did not think the players would except Dhalsim fighting in a lab coat. The idea of having Roshan Seth strip down to a yellow diaper would have only made him look ugly, so Dhalsim never got digitized (however, he does appear in the background in Dhalsim's Laboratory in the Home Console Game). Fei Long is not playable for the main reason being he didn't appear in the movie (although, a character that looks very much like him can be seen in the background in the Dungeon stage in the Arcade game, if certain requirements are met). T. Hawk does not appear because Gregg Rainwater never showed up for motion capture and the fact he looked the least like his game character. He does appear in shots from the movie in the Home Console Game (like in Guile's Movie and Street Battle endings), but Alan Noon didn't see it as a big loss, considering he never liked T. Hawk, the least popular New Challenger anyway.
- Beating the game with Arkane, Khyber or F7 will simply give the player Blade's ending.
- The Arcade Game was featured in the 1996 movie Alaska.
- Classic Street Fighter music is available in the Arcade Game. The character's music will play in the background during the proceeding fight. During the character versus screen, the player just presses:
Jab, Jab, Strong to hear Ryu's theme
Jab, Jab, Fierce to hear Vega's theme
Jab, Jab, Short to hear Guile's theme
Jab, Jab, Forward to hear Sagat's theme
Jab, Jab, Roundhouse to hear Ken's theme
Strong, Strong, Jab to hear Honda's theme
Strong, Strong, Fierce to hear Chun-Li's theme
Strong, Strong, Short to hear Cammy's theme
Strong, Strong, Forward to hear Fei Long's theme
Strong, Strong, Roundhouse to hear Balrog's theme
Fierce, Fierce, Jab to hear Blanka's theme
Fierce, Fierce, Strong to hear Bison's theme
Fierce, Fierce, Short to hear Akuma's theme
Fierce, Fierce, Forward to hear Zangief's theme
These character themes can be heard during the characters' ending (ie. winning with Ryu will play Ryu's background music), with Fei Long's theme playing during Sawada's ending and Blade's ending uses Blanka's theme.
- In the Arcade Game, Balrog can deflect projectile attacks by blocking.
- In the Arcade Game, the characters' alignments are reflected through the 'win' symbols (simply by winning a round). The game's good characters (Ryu, Guile, Ken, Honda, Chun-Li, Cammy, Sawada and Balrog) will use the globe with steel wings on top of a blue color, symbolizing a victory for the Allies. The game's evil characters (Vega, Sagat, Blade, Bison, Akuma and Zangief) will use a winged skull on top a red color, symbolizing a victory in the name of Bison.
- In the Home Console Game, the characters' alignments are reflected through music. During the closing battle face-off screen, the game will show two TV monitors, with the victor in full color while the loser is grayed out. While delivering a battle quote, one of two victory themes will play. A win for the good characters (Guile, Cammy, Sawada, Chun-Li, Honda, Balrog, Ken and Ryu) triggers an upbeat electric guitar tune (played to emphasize that in these desperate times, this is a victory for the Allies and justice will prevail), while a win for the evil characters (Akuma, Bison, Sagat, Dee Jay, Zangief, Vega and Blanka) triggers a sinister-sounding verse (suggesting the villains are winning and the world will be doomed).
- In the Arcade Game, the characters' endings include a symbol below the ending text. That symbol reflects what they would be associated with. Symbols include:
Ken and Ryu: a globe with steel wings, used for the movie logo's graphic design
Guile, Cammy and Sawada: the symbol of the Allied Nations, a globe with stars circling it
Chun-Li, Balrog and Honda: the graphic design for Global News Television
Sagat and Vega: the symbol of the Shadaloo Crime Tong, a snake wrapped around a dagger
Bison, Blade and Zangief: the symbol of Bison's military forces, a skull with wings
Akuma: the Japanese symbol for "ten" (means "sky" or "heaven" in Japanese)
- In the Arcade Game, if you fight in the Dungeon stage, you will see Honda and Cammy shackled to the wall in the background. If either the player or the computer are using Honda or Cammy, they will be fighting in the foreground and the background will replace either of the two in use with a different character. You will see Chun-Li in place of Honda, and Cammy will be replaced by Fei Long (?).
- In the Home Console Game, if either the player(s) or the computer is playing as Blanka in the Dhalsim's Laboratory stage, the mutation chamber will be empty. If neither player is using Blanka, he can be seen struggling in the mutation chamber.
- In the Arcade Game, every characters' ending finishes with the footage used in the movie after Bison blows up Guile's stealth boat, which features Bison boasting, "Game Over!"
