All six Power Rangers are included: Adam, Kimberly, Billy, Aisha, Rocky, and Tommy. They each have signature abilities moves and weaknesses. Unlike the previous game, the player doesn't morph from human to Ranger halfway through the level but instead morphs once a "Thunder Meter" is filled. This happens by picking up ThunderBolts that are dropped by destroyed enemies. The player can jump from a foreground to a background by a press of a button. There is a multiplayer mode allowing two players to play.

[edit] Criticism

It can be hard to tell which layer an enemy or item is on, making the two layers an unwanted feature to some. The storyline is considered horrible because of its inaccuracy to the movie plotline. In the game Rita Repulsa, Lord Zedd and Ivan Ooze are an alliance unlike in the movie where they are sealed away by Ivan. Also, the Ranger's weapons are from the TV show, instead of the new ones that are featured in the movie. Not only that but the levels in the game have nothing to do with the movie whatsoever.

The first half of the Genesis version focuses on the movie, then the second half focuses on the second season of the series. Its gameplay is similar to another games such as Final Fight or Double Dragon.

[edit] Game Boy version

The Game Boy version contains similar gameplay to the SNES version, with the morphing meter retained. Unlike the SNES version, the Game Boy version has a password system and the 2-player simultaneous gameplay wasn't featured.
