MLB '06: The Show, produced by Sony Studios, is a baseball video game for PlayStation 2 and PSP. It is the only first-party MLB-licensed video game for the 2006 season. For this reason, it is likely to draw attention to the brand and franchise, while the top selling baseball video game developers of previous seasons, notably EA Sports, are forced to devise creative alternatives. The game was released in the US in February, 2006.

As of March 2006, MLB '06 has begun an extensive television advertising campaign with humorous 'spots' featuring MLB players with actors. David Ortiz of the Boston Red Sox is featured on the cover.

MLB 06: The Show features a career mode in which you create a player and go through a career by completing various obstacles.

The game does not feature any MLB player who is not a member of the Major League Baseball Players Association, however there are some fictional players in the game that are similar to these missing players, most notably Reggie Stocker for Barry Bonds.

MLB 06: The Show also features Season mode, where you can carry one team through an entire 162-game season and into the playoffs if you make it there. You can pick from the thirty current Major League Baseball teams, and you have the options to change you team's roster, review scouting reports for your current opposing team, and view statistics and standings for your team and the other 29 teams playing.

Also featured in MLB 06: The Show is Franchise mode, where in addition to multiple 162-game seasons, you control every part of the team, such as hiring coaches and setting prices. You can sign free agents, deal with player contracts, and achieve franchise goals that vary from team to team. However, if you don't want to manage certain things, you can let the CPU do it for you.

The game also features Home Run Derby, an event that, in real life, is hosted by Century 21 Real Estate every year on the eve before the MLB All Star game. You are available to play as any non-pitcher and can select from 2-10 players from any team in MLB, the stadium you play in, how many outs you get, and the time, day or night.

You can play an arcade style game called King of the Diamond, where you select to play for the Crimson or Cobalt teams and select one batter and one pitcher from any team in the MLB to play. You can select the amount of time for each inning and the type of play.
