[edit] Synopsis
The night after the wedding, Cargn and Tyno go to the Crichton and Katralla statues, and decapitate Crichton! Due to the process of the statue creation, he is still alive, but Cargn throws the head in a vat of acid so that Crichton will not be able to be revived. Scorpius then rescues Crichton's head, implying it will be very useful to him. But before he leaves, he is knocked unconscious by Jenavian, who then replaces Crichton's head and de-statue-ifies him. Jenavian debriefs Crichton and he tells her the truth about who he is. Then they go skinny dipping and have sex.
Meanwhile, due to Dregon's inexperience in rock climbing, he falls and takes Aeryn down with him. Aeryn is forced, with a broken leg, to tow Dregon on a travois back to the city. While they do so, Dregon talks to Aeryn about love, and how it is better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all. The good days are worth all the pain experienced at love's end, which gives Aeryn something to think about.
Zhaan strikes back at Kahaynu, and he reveals he was only testing her--he wanted to make sure that the Moyans wouldn't use Moya's ability to produce gunship babies to kill with. He restores Moya to strength, but grants Zhaan her wish of being able to hear Moya speak for once. Moya asks Zhaan to sing for her.
By this point, everyone is looking for Crichton--Scorpius, D'Argo, Empress Novia, and Cargn, who has just killed Clavor. John, D'Argo, Cargn, and Scorpius have a confrontation by the acid vats, as Cargn dangles Chiana above an acid vat. Crichton kills Cargn, D'Argo rescues Chiana, and then leaves a defeated Scorpius to be killed by Crichton. However, John decides not to kill Scorpius, just asks him to leave him alone. After John is gone, Scorpius is revealed to have been faking his weakness and defeat.
Crichton refuses to become a statue again, and tells the Empress he's leaving, until she tells him that Katralla is already pregnant with his baby; he immediately agrees to become a statue again. However, Tyno says that is impossible--as a non-Sebacean, he won't survive the procedure a second time. He tells Tyno to take his place as the baby's father, with no one the wiser because Crichton's identity was known to very few people. Katralla happily agrees.
Back on Moya, John and Aeryn are once again in the hangar bay, John working on his module. Aeryn, still angry with Crichton, approaches him, carrying a small vial containing the fluid from The Royal Planet that shows people if they're genetically compatible when they kiss--if a sweet flavor is produced, they're compatible. Without speaking, John and Aeryn kiss briefly, then she turns her back to Crichton and walks away, a smile slowly forming on her face, with her expression mirrored on Crichton's face, a promise for the future.
