Image talk:Theocracyband.jpg
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I'm afraid that a band member writing "free use for whoever wants to use it" in an Internet forum isn't really sufficient evidence that the photo is released under a free license. Did he mean free as in beer or free as in speech? Did he mean anyone can use the image for commercial purposes? Did he mean people can modify the image and make derivatives of it? It would be better to have the band's publicist or manager send an e-mail to permissions(at)wikimedia(dot)org explicitly releasing the photograph under the terms of the GFDL and/or one of the Creative Commons Licenses that permits commercial reuse and derivatives (CC-BY, CC-BY-SA). Some suggestions for how to write the request are at WP:ERP. —Angr 17:50, 17 February 2007 (UTC)
- I fixed the page I believe, if this isn't good enough I guess I got some replaceable fair use tagging to do.--E tac 12:36, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

- Can you please just leave the replaceable notice on the page until an admin looks at it (like it asks people to)? They will assess neutrally if it passes or not. I will not reinstate the tag that you removed yet, hoping that you will replace it in good faith of a fair evaluation. Thanks! -- moe.RON Let's talk | done 18:49, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

- Why? You haven't tagged Image:AlSchnierBioPic.jpg this image, I used an identical format for a fair use rationale. If you are going to claim your problems with this page isn't POV on the deletion discussion you do realize your actions speak louder than words. I am sure you will respond by quoting 5 policies or something like that.--E tac 22:14, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

- Ok, I am getting that image deleted; it is VERY replaceable. -- moe.RON Let's talk | done 22:17, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

I've replaced the "replaceable fair use" tag and also added the "unsourced" tag as there's no information on who the copyright holder of the image is or where it came from. Please remember that (paradoxical though it may seem) we can't use images by permission only. The image either has to be freely released for anyone to use it, or else it has to be compliant with Wikipedia's fair use policy. At the moment this image is neither. —Angr 05:22, 28 February 2007 (UTC)
- And I've deleted the image, as it is a patent example of replaceable fair use. Permission, in email, has to be obtained from the copyright holder and forwarded to permissions-en (at) wikimedia (dot) org. Without this level of permission to license under the GFDL or an equivalent free license, Wikipedia simply cannot keep the image online. Additionally, please do not re-upload the image without the permission being acknowledged by permissions-en - if you mention that it has been deleted, and provide a link to the deleted page, or to here, they'll gladly undelete the image and add the appropriate licnese, source and contact details. - Still not good enough, I'm afraid. We need to have the name/URL of the copyright holder, we need a real statement of licensing/free use - a forum post is by no means verifiable, nor trustable. For this image, we will not accept it without an email of permission. You can email me here, or you may email the address listed countless times above. In your email, you should forward an email of permission obtained from the copyright holder (which may not be the band). Until this is done, the image will be repeateedly re-deleted.
