[edit] Plot

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

The episode opens with a bunch of people dancing in a club called Thrash. A club patron, Jennifer, orders a drink at the bar and is hit on by a slick hustler-type called Zed who slips something in her drink. Later on, as the bar is being cleaned up, one of the waitresses, Nicki, notices that Zed didn't pay his tab, again. As she looks for him in the restroom, she is approached from behind and kidnapped.

Krista is seen showering after sleeping with Marcus. She opens the shower drain, as usual, to inject the serum and hesitates, eyeing the vial. She crushes the vial in her hand and throws the remaining vials of serum against the wall. Krista decides to go out hunting for some fresh blood, only to be tracked down by Blade. As she's about to pounce, he ambushes her and knocks her out, taking her back to his warehouse. When she awakens inside of a cell-like back room, Blade tells her that he knows she's tasted blood and that she's off the serum. He also tells her that he knows she was with Marcus the night before because Chthon keeps their windows open at night. To prove his point, Blade hangs a bag of blood in the doorway and cuts it open, letting it drain out. Krista, the thirst consuming her, lunges for the blood. Blade shoots her with a vial of serum and she falls to the floor. Blade warns Krista if the detox doesn't work, he's going to ash her.

Meanwhile, Charlotte sits down with Chase at her home in New Orleans. She tells Chase that she knows Marcus is planning something against the Purebloods, and she wants to know what it is. She offers Chase a choice - help her stop Marcus, or be killed.

Shen and another asian man are sitting in a movie theater discussing the missing blonde waitress, Nicki, from Thrash. The other man wants Shen to talk to the Nicki's sister, Bethany, and help her find her sister. Shen tells him he doesn't have time, and the man reminds him that he had time when it was his own sister that was missing. Shen is still reluctant to help, when Bethany walks into the movie theater and asks him to help. Bethany sits down with Shen and gives him pictures of her sister. Some of the pictures show a man with a glyph on his wrist with his arm around Nicki. Shen tells Bethany that he will look into it.

Blade checks on Krista to see that she's still in withdrawal. Shen tells Blade to go easy on her. He also reminds Blade that their mission is to stop people from dying. Blade asks what Shen means, and Shen fills him in on Nicki. Blade tells Shen the glyph in the photos belongs to a vampire named the White Prince. He's a solo vampire that no house would accept because he was too uncontrollable. He tells Shen to get more information on the White Prince while he goes to find the Prince's familiar. Blade heads to a strip club where he finds the "King of Familiars" trying to recruit a new kid into the House of Chthon. He roughs the guy up and finds out that the Prince's familiar works out of the Thrash club.

The White Prince has two girls tied to poles in his hideout, Jennifer and Nicki. He has begun slicing up Jennifer and videotaping it, which he shows to Nicki. He waves a bloody straight razor in front of her and cleans the blood off of it.

Blade again checks on Krista to find that she's quieted down. He and Shen discuss the White Prince, whom Shen has determined was Gilles de Rais, a 15th century French nobleman who cannibalized hundreds of children. He operates on a lunar cycle where he appears every 19 years to kill and mutilate. Shen wants to interrogate the Prince's familiar, but Blade is wary because he thinks the Prince will disappear again if they get too close. They decide to have Bethany approach the Prince's familiar to find out where the he's hiding out. Bethany agrees, and they fit her with a transponder so they can track her movements.

The White Prince tells Nicki that he is a seraphim, a product of humans and angels, although what he describes himself as would more accurately be referred to a nephilim, those causing others to fall. He tells her he will forever walk the earth drowning in her blood. He feels that she doesn't believe him, so he cuts his palm open with a straight razor and shows her that the cut heals instantly.

Blade and Shen arrive at the club where Bethany is put out as bait. Shen starts to get impatient, when he notices Zed, the suspected familiar of the White Prince, hitting on Bethany. Shen attacks Zed and looks for the White Prince's glyph, but doesn't see a glyph. While Shen fights Zed, Bethany disappears. Shen looks everywhere for Bethany, but he can't find her. Shen leaves the club in frustration and meets with Blade outside. He tells Blade that he knows that he screwed up and decides to go back into the club to wash up.

Marcus asks Chase where she's been and she tells him that she was at a tea party. He asks her if she knows where Krista is, and she tells him no. Meanwhile, Krista is hallucinating in her cell. She keeps hearing Blade and Shen's voices repeating that she has to fight the thirst. Krista, in a rage, finally busts open her cell door. Marcus questions Chase about her meeting with Charlotte. Chase tells him that Charlotte wants her to be her eyes and ears within Chthon. She says that she told "Goldilocks" she would have to think about it. Marcus tells Chase to tell Charlotte that she agrees to spying on him and that she would like to prove it. Marcus hands Chase Blade's broken sword as an offering to Charlotte.

Back at Thrash, Shen discovers the Prince's real familiar in the bathroom. Shen confronts him and demands to know what he did with Bethany. As Shen is roughing the familiar up, the White Prince grabs him from behind and knocks him against the wall, taking Shen to his lair, which is through a panel in the bathroom wall. Blade, upset that Shen isn't answering him, storms the club and starts shooting to clear the place out. He enters the bathroom and see's blood on the panel. He busts through the hidden panel and into the Prince's lair. Blade sees the videotapes of the butchered girls and crushes the tape, when the White Prince, camouflaged against the wall, attacks him. Meanwhile, Shen finds the sisters, Bethany and Nicki, in another room. While Shen is freeing the sisters, the familiar attacks him and tells him that his master wants 100 people in exchange for turning him. A fight ensues ending with the familiar getting stabbed and killed with the Prince's razor. Blade catches up to the Prince, who tries to evade Blade, utlizing his vampire strength of super-jumping, which Blade easily matches. Blade finally corners the Prince and they begin to fight. Eventually, Blade removes his mask, and we get to see the White Prince's face, which is a sickly ash gray and covered with elaborate, self inflicted scars made with a silver blade. In the ensuing fight, Blade grabs the Prince's jaw and rips it off, before throwing him through a window into the sunlight, effectively ashing him.

Chase returns to Charlotte and tells her she will help her work against Marcus. She offers Charlotte the broken sword from Blade, and tells Charlotte it's a promise, "Marcus now, Blade next." To which Charlotte replies, "Our relationship is paying off already."

When Shen and Blade return to the warehouse, they find the door to Krista's cell broken open. Then they find Krista in the cell, with a bag of serum on the floor. She has detoxed and beaten the thirst with the help of the serum. Krista tells Blade that she's lost everyone and everything. Blade tells Krista that addicts never handle loss very well and that she's an addict. Blade tells Krista that she has a choice, to keep going or not. She asks him if it ever gets better. He tells her it gets better every time he kills a vampire.

Before Krista leaves, Blade mentions that Marcus is making his move against the Chthon Purebloods soon and he wants to know where it will happen. He asks Krista to find out Marcus' plans. Krista doesn't think Marcus will tell her, but Blade tells her to gain Marcus' trust.

[edit] Trivia

  • Shen reveals that the White Prince deliberately scarred himself using silver. Vampires would normally regenerate from such a wound, but Shen tells Blade that the Prince found a way to make the scars permanent.
  • Gilles de Rais was a real person and is considered by some to be the first recorded serial killer.
  • On this episode, We get a glimpse into Vampires who are Unaffiliated; Vampires who are too unstable and dangerous for any of the Houses to accept. Another example of this, would be the Bad Bloods,a Gang that Blade used to associate with, and turned. None of the established Vampire Houses would accept them into their fold. They are similar to the Caitiff in Vampire the Masquerade, except they come from any of the Vampire Tribes(which are different than the Houses), and aren't accepted by any of the Houses. Caitiff on the other hand, are Vampires who are disowned by their Sires, and do not belong to any of the Clans.
  • We learn of how Unaffiliated Vampires operate, and how they obtain victims to feed on, along with proof of independent Glyphs that they brand their Familiars with, to separate them from House-Owned Familiars.
