[edit] Plot

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

The episode opens with Krista at a dinner party, where her Uncle Pat finds her. He tells her that her mother is sick, and that she needs to go to the hospital to see her. Before he can get into more detail, Marcus whisks her away to return to the hotel.

Marcus and Krista return to the hotel where they see a severely burned Chase. Chase tells Marcus that Blade is responsible. Upset, Marcus orders Krista to immediately leave for Berlin, where she is to track down Vanessa and retrieve her from Blade. On her way, Krista detours to the hospital to see her mom. She learns that her mom has Leukemia, and will die without a bone marrow transplant. Uncle Pat is not a match, and Krista is the only one who can donate. She tells Uncle Pat she can't do it, and he assumes that it's because she's using drugs. Upset, they argue and Krista tells him she'll be back.

Blade and Vanessa are on a train to Paris. Blade presses her for information on Dr. Vonner. She refuses to cooperate and begins yelling. Unsure what else to do, Blade knocks her unconscious. While Vanessa's out cold, Blade falls asleep. He has a dream about his mother, who calls him a murdering bastard and tells him to "gut the bitch". He awakens with a start and stares at Vanessa, who tells him she needs to use the bathroom. On their way to the bathroom they are attacked by two vampires, one that Blade kills, and one that Vanessa kills. They decide to leave the train.

Back at the Chthon hotel, Marcus receives word that Blade is headed to Paris with the girl. He orders Krista to go Paris and intercept Blade. In his office, Charlotte corners Marcus. She tells him that Damek, the last pureblood Armayan, has called a meeting with her and Marcus. She tells him that Damek knows about the experimentation on the Armayan vampires and that he wants to state his conditions. Charlotte is visibly upset, and wants Marcus to tell her the truth about Berlin. He tells her that one asset was compromised, but that there are 18 more scattered around.

Blade and Vanessa decide to travel underground to Paris, where Blade has a doctor friend who can check her out. On the way there, they are attacked again by vampires, who are dispatched by Blade. At the doctor's house, Blade watches as Vanessa is checked over by the doctor. The doctor takes Blade aside and tells him that there's no baby, just a sac of fluid. Blade wants a sample to analyze.

Outside the doctor's house, in Paris, Krista pulls up with the vampire hit squad and prepares to attack Blade. Before anyone gets a chance to exit the car, Krista ashes them all. She heads up to meet with Blade, where they exchange information. The doctor tells Vanessa what is going on, and they decide to remove the sac of fluid. As this is happening, Blade falls asleep and dreams again. He sees his mother again, and hallucinates that she's there with them. When he awakens, the doctor has removed the fluid, which cannot be identified. He also tells Vanessa that she can never have children now, due to the operation. They decide to move Vanessa underground and on to a new life.

Charlotte, Marcus and Damek meet in a hockey rink. Damek demands that the House of Armaya be let back into the fold, out of exile, and that he regain his seat on the ruling council. Charlotte is visibly upset and complains that Damek is blackmailing her, which he counters by telling her that it's justice. Marcus asks Damek how he found out about the experimentation, and Damek produces Sands, the vampire who told Blade about Aurora. Damek tells Marcus that Sands survived the experiments and told him all about it. Boone isn't mentioned, or shown in this episode.

Underground, Krista and Blade split up. He gives her the fluid (less the amount he needs to analyze). She tells him that Marcus will never believe that her whole team got ashed but she got away with the fluid and no marks on her. She tells Blade to make it look like she was in a war with him.

Marcus visits Chase, who is regenerating from her burns. She apologizes for losing the asset (Vanessa), and Marcus tells her it is alright because Krista will get it back. Chase is skeptical. Marcus also tells Chase about Damek's demands.

Krista returns to Marcus at the hotel and gives him the fluid. She tells him that the rest of the team was killed, the girl disemboweled, and that she saved what she could. She shows him that Blade cut off her right hand and also scarred her face. Marcus is pleased with her. He tells her he has big plans for her.

The episode finishes with Blade setting fire to a photograph of his pregnant mother. He is in posession of another container of fluid.
