Degrassi: The Next Generation (Season 6)

The sixth season of Degrassi: The Next Generation originally began airing in September 2006, and will produce a total of 19 episodes, but has not aired all of those episodes as of February 2007. The season will be released on DVD at an undetermined date after all episodes have been televised.

It was during this season that the second production block of Degrassi Minis was filmed.

Immediately it is apparent that Emma and Sean are oozing chemistry. Will things heat up again between them? Marco and Dylan find an apartment in the Annex perfectly close to school, but Marco has to contend with helping Dylan find roommates, choosing courses with Ellie and throwing Paige a blow-out going party all at the same time. Things intensify between Emma and Sean, and when she takes time off from Peter to consider her relationship with Sean, Peter takes action. To settle things, Peter and Sean decide to have a midnight race that ends in disaster. Ellie's cutesy new roommate Amberley is making dorm life miserable, so she writes an "anonymous" article about roommates for the school newspaper. Ellie suddenly finds herself intrigued with her editor -- and without a place to live.

Emma is happy that the racing debate is behind them and that Peter got off with house arrest and 500 hours of community service. But her world is turned upside down when Jay tells her how much Sean needs help. Emma uses a dance to raise money for a lawyer and discovers the truth about why Sean was really kicked out. Ellie is devastated to discover that her first article has been killed. Emma finds out Peter put the drugs in the locker, thus ending Peter & Emma's relationship.

Jimmy starts the year off with big plans with the girl's junior basketball team and he is determined to take his relationship to the next level, but is uncertain of whether he can. Darcy, now the captain of Spirit Squad, invites Manny to be choreographer, but they soon clash when new girl Mia Jones arrives at Degrassi. She is perfect for the squad, but has a little issue that may drive captain and choreographer apart. NOTE: This episode is edited in the US.

Peter, hoping to join Spirit Squad, links Darcy's personal web page to his. Darcy, thrilled with all the attention and hits, posts some raunchy pictures of the Spirit Squad. It seems like a great way to raise money for new uniforms, but how far will it go? JT is excited to get his job as a kids' television host back and he invites Mia and her two-year-old daughter, Isabella, to a taping. But as they connect, seeing JT with another girl leaves Liberty reeling.

Alex is back at Degrassi to upgrade her marks for university, but with all her friends gone, her social life has taken a beating. To add insult to injury, her new lacrosse teammate is making her life a living hell.

Sean is released from prison, and he's crashing on Snake and Spike's couch, determined to leave the past behind him and be a good boyfriend to Emma. That may change when he discovers the history between Jay and Emma, and realizes that Emma is not so perfect. Derek and Danny clash with one of their teachers, who may be really strict or just plain crossing the line.

Craig’s back in town for a music festival – and Manny can’t help picking up right where they left off. Craig’s embracing the rock star lifestyle, and though everyone else – especially Ellie – thinks he’s amazing – Manny has to decide if this new, dangerous Craig is the same one she loves. JT and Mia couldn’t be happier as Degrassi’s newest cute couple – and everyone’s happy for them – except, of course, for Liberty. She decides Mia’s got to know the truth about JT’s past – but will he be able to pick up the pieces of his relationship? Note: This episode is edited in the US.[citation needed]

"What's It Feel Like To Be a Ghost?, Part 2" December 26, 2006 110 6x10 by Taking Back Sunday
Ellie thinks all Craig’s bad behaviour is due to Manny – to help him, she’s determined to stay by his side while he’s in town. When Craig grabs a spot playing with Taking Back Sunday (guest staring as themselves) at university concert, Ellie thinks their problems are over. As Jesse begs her to see the truth, Craig spirals out of control. Can Ellie figure out the truth – in time to save herself?

Derek, Danny, and Toby are threatened by the Lakehurst goons, and learn they’re really out for JT. JT goes to the opposing school and confront the bullies, especially after he learns Mia’s stuck in the middle of the conflict. JT wants to be a man – but has to decide what’s really the right thing to do.

Manny's intent on getting over Craig, and uses Liberty's upcoming birthday as an excuse to throw a party at Emma's house while Spike and Snake are out of town. She's even got a great guy to introduce Liberty to - but doesn't anticipate how he'll feel. And of course, no party can be kept a secret for long, as soon the party gets out of control - even students from Lakehurst drop in unexpectedly. When tensions mount from a culminating school rivalry, J.T is fatally stabbed in the back by a Lakehurst thug. Note: This episode is edited in the US.[citation needed]

In the aftermath of J.T.'s death, all of Degrassi is in sorrow. Liberty, Mia, and Toby all deal with the loss of their dearest friend while Toby is left to consider whether he should tell both girls J.T.'s last feelings of affection for Liberty. Meanwhile, Ellie contemplates telling Jesse about her kiss with Craig or hide it from their relationship.

Manny moves out of Emma's house, and Manny has found interest with Damien, the student school council president of Lakehurst. Manny and Emma's friendship is tested when Emma joins in with Mia and other Degrassi students still angry over JT's death to protest Lakehurst's participation in the Spirit Squad Regionals being held at Degrassi. Later, Emma's actions trigger a near riot inside Degrassi between the rival student factions for which she receives a month's detention. Emma patches things up with Manny but admits to Manny that she's still not over JT's violent death. Dylan is acting mute, which makes Marco think he's cheating again.
