Degrassi: The Next Generation (Season 5)

The fifth season of Degrassi: The Next Generation originally aired between September 2005 and March 2006, producing a total of 19 episodes. The season has not yet been released on DVD.

Highlight of this season include the return of Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes as themselves (in "The Lexicon of Love, Part 1" and "The Lexicon of Love, Part 2") and the graduation of many of the main characters from Degrassi Community School. The season finale, "High Fidelity, Part 2", was also the 100th episode of Degrassi: The Next Generation.

It was during this season that the first production block of Degrassi Minis was filmed.

Everything is going great for JT when a revelation from Liberty turns his world upside down. After Darcy introduces Spinner to the Friendship Club, he finds himself attracted not only to her, but also her message. On the other hand, Jimmy, who still hates Spinner, can't leave well enough alone.

With the one year anniversary of last years tragedy approaching people are trying to deal with it in different ways. Spinner again tries to make peace with Jimmy, only to get shot down, but he is getting help dealing with his actions last year from two very different friends. Jimmy on the other hand faces a tough decision on what direction he should take in his life, and Hazel is not happy with him.

It's the movie premiere of Jay and Silent Bob Go Canadian, Eh! Paige and Alex discover they can have a great time when they attend the premiere together, which in turn leads up to a kiss, and confusion for Paige. Emma, on a date with her new secret boyfriend, discovers another secret couple at the premiere.

Kevin Smith helps Paige, who is confused about her sexuality. Emma is having trouble keeping secret what she saw at the premiere, and in the end it tears her family apart.

Craig and the band may finally have a shot at a record deal, but for Craig, it means leaving Toronto behind. Liberty is pushing herself too hard in her condition, which leads to her water breaking in Toby's car.

Marco becomes the first person to forgive Spinner, who is then put in a difficult position by the Friendship Club. In the end, Spinner sees the truth about who his friends really are, and Marco realizes how Spinner has felt. Catlin returns to cheer up Spike, but every effort made to do so proves to be tenuous at best.

Since Snake has been kicked out of the house, Emma can feel her home falling apart. Manny wants to lose some weight for her big audition, so Emma can't help but want to lose weight, too. After a fight at dinner, Emma finds a new way of losing weight in purging, but when Emma faints in the hall, Manny starts to worry for her. Spike forgives Snake.

Emma reveals her relationship with Peter to Manny in order to divert attention away from her eating disorder. Even Peter becomes wise to Emma's eating habits (or lack thereof) and informs Manny, leading to an intervention with disastrous results. Meanwhile, Alex and Hazel reach an agreement.

Marco is interested in the prospect of a new romance, but Dylan comes back into his life, and Marco realizes he is not over Dylan in any sense. (In India, this episode aired with an "M" rating since it included a scene were Tim and Marco have sex.)

Darcy learns about Spinner's past with Manny, and her jealousy towards his past leads to a breakup. Spinner seeks comfort with Paige, who has just been dumped by Alex, while Alex finds comfort with Jay, who (in a rare show of real emotion) is sincere in cheering her up.

100th episode. [1] Darcy and Spinner get back together, but a night with Paige puts their relationship in jeopardy again. When Ashley surprisingly returns to Degrassi, she helps Jimmy with his problems, but in the process re-ignites an old flame. At the graduation ceremony, Jimmy forgives Spinner, which motivates him to get Darcy back, and another old friend returns to see his friends graduate.
