Ciara: The Evolution is the second studio album by American singer Ciara, released on December 5, 2006 (see 2006 in music) in the U.S. and Canada on LaFace and Jive Records. It will be released in the UK on April 9, 2007. The album received generally positive reviews from critics and debuted at number one on the Billboard 200. It has been certified platinum by the RIAA. The album is composed of Miami bass, Atlanta crunk, ballads, dance tracks, and old school songs with "big fat pop hooks".[1]
The album produced the U.S. top twenty singles "Get Up", which features rapper Chamillionaire and also appears on the Step Up soundtrack and "Promise" (which is Ciara’s first single to enter the top twenty as a solo artist). The single, "Like a Boy" is currently climbing the charts. The third single "My Love" will be released on June 2007. [1]

[edit] Album Information
[edit] Title and production
According to Ciara, the title is "about so much more than just my personal growth -- it's about the evolution of music, the evolution of dance, the evolution of fashion."[2] The source of the album's creativity such as the sound and edge comes from Ciara in general.[3] Ciara enlisted all-star producers Polow Da Don, The Neptunes, Bryan Michael Cox, Will.i.am, Dallas Austin, Rodney Jerkins and Mr. Collipark, who produced the bonus track "Love You Better", and newcomers The Clutch, Calvo Da Gr8, Brian Kennedy, and Antwoine Collins. She returned to the studio with her debut album collaborators Lil Jon and Jazze Pha. She also wrote/co-wrote most of the songs and co-produced "Like a Boy" and "My Love". The guest rappers include Chamillionaire, 50 Cent, and Lil Jon.
[edit] Reception and releases
Ciara went on a 16 city club tour, which started October 26 in Washington, D.C. until December 10 in New York City. She performed Evolution hits "Get Up", "Promise" and "Like a Boy", her earlier singles, and new material from Ciara: The Evolution. BET also aired an Access Granted of Ciara's The Evolution Tour. Ciara: The Evolution received generally positive reviews from critics. Some critics focused on Ciara's weak vocal abilities on some album songs. Christian Hoard of Rolling Stone said that "Ciara's still prone to diva blandness and silly little pop songs...but this time she's more interesting by half."[4] For All Music Guide, Andy Kellman wrote that "there are plenty of tracks geared toward letting loose and dancing, and most of them do deliver, even if they don't seem quite as fresh as Ciara's past hits",[5] and Entertainment Weekly called the dance songs "rugged and terrific, but eventually the tempos slow and the album drags".[6]
Ciara: The Evolution debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums with sales of more than 338,000, which is 213,000 more than Ciara's debut album Goodies that debuted at number three. The album was certified platinum by the RIAA in the January 27, 2007 issue of Billboard for shipping 1,000,000 units to retail outlets. The album remained in the top twenty for eight weeks before dropping out. In Canada, the album debuted at thirty-two on the Canadian albums chart and five on the R&B albums chart. In Australia, Ciara: The Evolution debuted below the ARIA Top 50 at seventy-six.[citation needed]
The single "Get Up", an upbeat dance track, was released in July 2006 for the film soundtrack Step Up. After its fourth week on the Billboard Hot 100, it peaked at number seven and number ten on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs. The song remained in the top forty for fourteen weeks. "Promise", the official first single, debuted at forty-five on the Billboard Hot 100 making the single Ciara’s highest debut on the chart. The song has reached number eleven on the Hot 100 chart, and number one on the R&B/Hip-Hop charts. The official remix for "Promise" was released the week of January 15, 2007 and was produced Polow da Don and features R&B singer and producer R. Kelly. The remix helped the single reached number one on the R&B/Hip-Hop charts. The second single, "Like a Boy" was released on February 13, 2007. It is the first single in the Europe. The song debuted on the R&B/Hip-Hop charts at seventy-five, so far it has peaked at eight. It debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 at eighty-one and so far peaked at twenty five. The album track "Can't Leave 'Em Alone" is receiving radio airplay without promotion.[7]

|
"Get Up" is a song written and recorded by R&B singer Ciara and rapper Chamillionaire for the soundtrack of the dance/romance film Step Up. Released as a single in 2006 (see 2006 in music), it includes a subtly-incorporated portion of Rockwell's 1984 single "Somebody's Watching Me". It appears on her second album Ciara: The Evolution. The up-tempo song is about Ciara seeing a male in a club, and while they dance together they start to have intimate feelings for each other. They have never spoken but feel they have some chemistry. Chamillionaire's rap verse is lyrically a sequel to his previous single "Ridin'." The Jazze Pha-produced song was leaked onto the internet on June 15, 2006. | ||||||||
