That Petrol Emotion was an Irish based band with an American vocalist (Steve Mack), that had evolved from the Derry Hitmakers and The Undertones (brothers John O'Neill and Damian O'Neill). From 1985, the band would release a number of singles. Even though they managed to chart seven singles in the UK Singles Chart, they never managed to better the peak of their first chart hit "Big Decision" in 1987. They did, however, manage to reach the Top 40 of the UK Albums Chart with that single's parent album - Babble.

Seán Ó'Néill (a.k.a. John O'Neill) would go on to form the band Rare, whilst The Undertones would reform in the 2000s for an album, without Feargal Sharkey, on Sanctuary Records.
