That's Too Much! is a pricing game on the American television game show The Price Is Right. Debuting on April 19, 2001, this game is played for a car.

[edit] Gameplay

A line of ten increasing prices for a car is displayed, one at a time. Each price is between $1,000 and $3,000 higher than the previous price.

Once the contestant believes he has seen the first price that is "too much" (i.e., higher than the car's actual retail price), he screams/shouts "THAT'S TOO MUCH!"

If the contestant indeed stops at the right price, he wins the car. However, if the contestant stops at any price that is below the car's price, or finds a higher price that is not the first higher one, he loses.

[edit] Trivia

  • Before the game starts, host Bob Barker will have the contestants practice shouting "That's too much!" to ensure they use enough enthusiasm in stopping the game. He will ask the contestant to practice several times if he feels he/she does not use enough enthusiasm the first time (a particularly poor attempt will often result in the audience booing), and will act with feigned despair whenever the player either forgets to use the proper enthusiasm or says the incorrect command (e.g., "Stop!"). Often, Barker has had to remind the contestant to yell "That's too much!" to stop the game.
  • On the first two playings of That's Too Much!, the prices were shown in a split-screen shot along with a still shot of the car. For reasons unknown, this shot was quickly done away with.
  • Only one contestant has gotten all the way to the tenth price before stopping the game, in 2003. This playing resulted in a loss.
  • Only one playing of That's Too Much! actually did require the player to stop at the last price.
  • The first two prices have never been correct. Only twice in the game's history has the third price been correct.
  • One playing of That's Too Much! displayed the first two prices to be only $7 away from each other.
