Thank You for the Venom is the first single and ninth track from My Chemical Romance's second studio album, Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge. It was released as an airplay single in Europe. It is also the band's fifth single.

One view of this song is that it is about missionaries who come to your door attempting to convert you to their religion. The speaker complains and explains trying to brush off the missionaries since they won't succeed.

Sister, I'm not much a poet, but a criminal/ and you never had a chance/ Love it or leave it, you cant understand/ a pretty face but you do so carry on and on and on and on
Preach all you want but who's gonna save me? I keep a gun on the book you gave me! Hallelujah, lock and load!

Another view is that it's a dig at scene politics and the vainer elements of the music scene. This can be heard in the lyrics: "You'll never make me leave, I'll wear this on my sleeve, You wanna follow something? Give me a better cause to lead! Just give me what I need, Give me a reason to believe..."

Gerard Way on the music "scene" - "If for one minute you think you're better than a sixteen year old girl in a Green Day t-shirt, you are sorely mistaken. Remember the first time you went to a show and saw your favorite band. You wore their shirt, and sang every word. You didn't know anything about scene politics, haircuts, or what was cool. All you knew was that this music made you feel different from anyone you shared a locker with. Someone finally understood you. This is what music is about."

"Merci Pour le Venin", which is on the inside cover of their first album I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love, means "Thank you for the Venom" in French.

The line "Sister, I'm not much a poet, but a criminal" can be seen as a reference to the Morrissey song "Sister, I'm a Poet." Gerard Way has stated that Morrissey was one of his inspirations.

This song was also featured in EA Games' Need For Speed Underground Rivals for the PSP.

At one of My Chemical Romance's first shows, Gerard was wearing a shirt saying "Thank You for the Venom".

A CD of the single was released that also featured a poor quality live version of the band playing Morrissey's song "Jack the Ripper". [1]
