Thalayolaparambu

Thalayolaparambu(തലയോലപ്പറമ്പ് in Malayalam) is a small village situated in Kottayam district of Kerala state, India. It belong to the Vaikom legislative assembly and Kottayam parliament constituency. This is one of the important town between Kottayam and Ernakulam. Piravam Road(velloor) and Vaikom Road(Aapanchira) are the nearest railway stations.It is a nice village evolving to be a small town.

This village is the hometown of famous personalities like Vaikom Muhammed Basheer, A.J.John, and K. G. Balakrishnan (first Dalit to become Chief Justice of India).

The place, a vibrant small town hosts the biggest Chantha or the make shift market of the locality. In ancient days, large barge like country boats transported goods from Alapuzha to Thalayolaparambu through these intricate networks of waterways. Federal Bank, Lord Krishna Bank, State Bank of Travancore, North Malabar Gramin Bank, Canara Bank have branches at Thalayolaparambu. Only State Bank of Travancore has its ATM counter at Thalayolaparambu.

There are three high-schools and one college in Thalayolaparambu. Dewaswom Board College is situated at Vettikkattumukku.Govt. Boys High School, Govt.Girls High School(AJ John Memorial), Govt. UP School, post office all are situated in the place.

The relegious harmony of the place is evident as one can see the church, temple and mosque situated close to each other. Among the temples in thalayolaparambu 'Pundareekapuram' temple is famous for its wall paintings. The walls of the sanctum sanctorum of the temple are covered with exquisite paintings which depicts episodes from the Hindu myths and Puranas. The murals in this temple are some of the best in Kerala.It is situated in Midayikunnam.
