TextMaker

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

TextMaker is a word processor that is sold both alone and as part of the SoftMaker office suite. It runs under Microsoft Windows and Linux as well as on Pocket PCs, Handheld PCs, Windows CE.NET, FreeBSD and on the Sharp Zaurus, and is the only word processor known to support all these systems. Furthermore, the user interface is as similar as possible across all supported platforms; the PDA versions are full-fledged versions rather than scaled-down versions lacking much of the functionality of the desktop version. TextMaker is developed in Nuremberg in Germany.

TextMaker has a long history; already under MS-DOS there were many versions of the program.

Version 2006, currently available for Microsoft Windows and Pocket PC, is the first version of TextMaker to support importing (but not writing) OpenOffice.org documents as well as documents in OpenDocument format. The current version for all other platforms is 2002.

TextMaker is also the word processor in the Ashampoo Office Suite 2005, with PlanMaker as the spreadsheet.
