State Highway 124 or SH 124 is a state highway that runs from Beaumont south to the Gulf coast at High Island. It was originally designated by 1933, travelling from Stowell through High Island to Port Bolivar. By 1939, the section south of High Island was transferred to SH 87, but was extended northeast to Beaumont over previous SH 125. This is the current routing. Although it is a two-lane for most of its length, it is the only designated hurricane evacuation route from the coast in eastern Chambers County.[2]
