[edit] Impossible?

"Because of the large number and variety of combinations, it is impossible to list a basic strategy for the turn and river bets."

Can we at least have a link to a site that discusses the strategy for the turn and river bets? I've looked and haven't found such a site yet. ~a (usertalkcontribs) 17:43, 7 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Optimal strategy

I think we have the optimal strategy wrong. The list provided at the wizard of odds suggest that lots of hands have negative expectation and should be folded. --best, kevin [kzollman][talk] 18:34, 14 August 2006 (UTC)

I disagree. A negative expected value just means that there's less than a 50% chance of winning. Since you've already put in an ante, it doesn't make sense to fold if there's a 49% chance of winning (for example). As a reference, just read the wizardofodds quote "the player should fold unsuited 2/3 to 2/7". What you want to look for is hands where the expected value is less than -1. ~a (usertalkcontribs) 19:01, 14 August 2006 (UTC)
The ante is a sunk cost. You don't get paid for most hands back on your ante, so your asking if you should risk 2 units for an payoff of ~2 units. In that case you should fold in almost all negative expectation hands. --best, kevin [kzollman][talk] 19:20, 14 August 2006 (UTC)
Okay, I think I understand. I read this page which gave a more clear statement of what these EV calculations are. My mistake. --best, kevin [kzollman][talk] 19:46, 14 August 2006 (UTC)
Yeah, I'm not sure if my explanation was correct, but I think I somehow came to the correct conclusion despite that. Well anyhow, I think the optimal strategy should involve looking at other players hands or flipping over the dealer's cards or something like that. ~a (usertalkcontribs) 19:59, 14 August 2006 (UTC)
