[edit] Portal's Sections

Does the Featured Article showcased in the Texas Portal have to be a Wikipedia Featured Article? - Bevo 21:26, 7 October 2005 (UTC)

I think so, yes. Johntex\talk 19:41, 3 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Something's missing...

This page needs bluebonnets on it! --Angr/tɔk tə mi 19:57, 16 October 2005 (UTC)

I think the current featured picture has been up a long time. Maybe bluebonnet's could be the next picture? Johntex\talk 19:41, 3 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Is someone in charge here?

Is there anyone in charge of updating this portal and changing the feature article? I noticed the feature article about Marshall has been up for a while, and wondered how often a new one was picked.  –Benjamin  (talk)  17:57, 31 October 2005 (UTC)

No one is really in charge, this being a wiki and all - but there is a list of participants at a related wiki-project: Wikipedia:WikiProject Texas Johntex\talk 19:41, 3 May 2006 (UTC)
I'll see if I can't look at it in the next few days. But if you wanna, go right ahead :) Joe I 13:27, 4 May 2006 (UTC)
PS...Check out my other one in the mean time :) Joe I 13:27, 4 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Help Needed

OK, I haven't really been involved with Wikipedia:WikiProject Texas or it's articles as much as I'd liked to. So, I'm not real familiar with the articles. If you have any suggestions, I would love to hear them. Please post a link to the article on (in the suggested heading) : Portal:Texas/Selected article archive, Portal:Texas/Selected picture archive, Portal:Texas/Did you know archive, Thnx.  :) Joe I 13:49, 13 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Help needed

I added a wikitable with state flower, bird etc..., into the intro section, need formating help. Was tryin to make it a full page width table, maybe not enough info for that. But the way it is, there are big ugly gaps in the intro. I tried it on it's own subpage at first, if someone can make this work pretty in any form or fashion, you'll get a Cookie!!!!  :) Joe I 11:29, 26 June 2006 (UTC)

Hope you don't mind, but I just moved the State symbols into a separate box in the portal. Though, I'm not entirely sure the table is formatted okay for everyone's browser, screen size, ... As for peer review, one thing is to make sure the selected articles and pictures are archived. See Portal:Politics or other featured portals for examples. Also, if you are going to rotate articles and pictures every month, it's possible to put them on automatic rotation and queue them up in advance. Articles can also be set to rotate weekly (though I'm not sure there are enough articles for Texas to do it that often). Again, take a look at Portal:Politics which has the article rotating weekly, while the picture is on a monthly schedule. One more thing... I don't think a portal shortcut is needed. It's just four more letters to type out "Portal:Texas" than to type "WP:Texas". Let me know if you have any questions or need assistance with any formatting. -Aude (talk contribs) 02:08, 29 June 2006 (UTC)
Actually, it's own frame box was what I wanted at first, but couldn't. I like it, thnx :) I do have archived pages, you can see them, Portal:Texas/Selected article archive, Portal:Texas/Selected Biography archive, Portal:Texas/Selected picture archive, Portal:Texas/Did you know archive, there. I thought that shortcut was for Wikipedia:WikiProject Texas, which doesn't have one. so I'll make it :) But thnx for the input, oh and the change on the texas collaboration notice, I like it better in the to do box :) THNX :) Joe I 04:33, 29 June 2006 (UTC)
The archives pages look good. You can add them to the portal, by including them as a parameter for {{/box-footer|}} as:
{{/box-footer|[[Portal:Texas/Selected article archive|Archive]]}}
You can do the same for other box-footers, for selected picture, bio, ... These archives links are a standard thing looked for in the featured portal candidates process. -Aude (talk contribs) 04:56, 29 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] State symbols revisited

At lower resolutions (/bigger font sizes) the table of text in the "State symbols" section was appearing below the pictures, leaving a lot of dead space to the left of the pics. So I moved the pics into the table itself, in a "rowspan=5" cell at the end of the first row, but then I had to remove all the "width" information to make it align correctly with the rest of the page. (At huge font sizes, relative to resolution, the entire page goes wacky, as the browser doesn't have enough room to show the two columns side by side.) Anyway, my latest version looks... okay, but there's still a little weirdness in the vertical spacing in the table. I'm not going to change it anymore, though. Someone else can try if they don't like the look of it. - dcljr (talk) 21:48, 6 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Selected pictures

This portal has selected numerous images which are fair use. Per that policy, these images are prohibited in portalspace, and even under a proposed amendment, they will still not be allowed for selected pictures. As Portal:Texas is featured, all fair use images need to be either replaced with free alternatives or removed entirely, as a matter of urgency. Else, it faces demotion.
