Teston, Ontario
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Teston is a hamlet located at the intersection of Teston Road and Jane Street, in the City of Vaughan, Ontario.
The Teston Church and some homes of early settlers are still standing to this day, but the rapid development of the Town of Maple will affect the hamlet in the near future. As matter of fact early 2005 the church was unsuccessfully relocated; meaning that lifting and floatation to an alternate site was not successful. Parts of the church were distributed among the surviving anscestors today before it was completely demolished. The only visible mention of the Hamlet existing today runs from Kleinberg to Keele street and continues east of Maple eventually becoming Elgin Mills road at Young street. Teston road is undergoing widening and will eventually have four lanes. Recently a major archeological discovery was made just east of Jane street on the south side of the road. Road crues discovered an aboriginal burial ground. Going West on Teston road to Pinevalley drive is Purpleville which has also recently been the centre of attention for archeological discoveries. Amongst the existing pioneer cemeteries on specific locations aboriginal villages have been uncovered existing of a number of wooden tree poles buried below the ground surface. These would most probably have been structural centre posts holding up an early aboriginal housing complex. The only visible existence of Purpleville today other than the cemeteries is a house on Pinevalley drive just south of Teston road which was the original post office. These historical documentations have been extrapolated from various personalities living in the area over years personal dialogue; therefore not all can be varified.
