Tessella is a software engineering and IT consultancy company based in Abingdon, Oxfordshire in the United Kingdom. Founded in 1980, Tessella now operates offices in the UK, US and the Netherlands. Tessella employs about 130 technical staff and has an annual turnover of approximately 10 million GBP.
Tessella specializes in software design and development, IT infrastructure support and project management mainly for customers in scientific, technical and engineering fields. It has developed long-term relationships with numerous large organizations.
Tessella has worked on a number of digital preservation projects, and in 2005 was chosen to develop the Electronic Records Archives (ERA) system for the US National Archives and Records Administration (NARA). As part of the winning Lockheed Martin team, Tessella will help build the ERA system which will capture and preserve the electronic records of the federal government, regardless of format, ensure hardware and software independence, and provide access to the American public and federal officials. At the present time, Tessella is also heavily involved with the Digital Preservation Coalition (DPC) and its "state of the nation" survey intended to reveal the extent of the risk of loss and degradation to digital material held by the UK's public and private sectors.
In December 2005, the company purchased Analyticon, a space science consultancy based in Stevenage.

- Defences: Analyticon, a wholly owned subsidiary of Tessella, is space science consultancy providing systems engineering, mission analysis, control design, mathematical modelling and analysis services.
- Energy & Chemical: Tessella develops software for 'upstream' and 'downstream' oil industry functions. Tessella supplies software solutions to energy and petrochemicals companies, including oil reservoir modelling, downstream chemical analysis and energy trading.Tessella also supports technical projects such as process control, chemical data analysis and visualization.
- Environmental: Tessella has received ISO 9001:2000 and TickIT Quality Management System certification for its software development process.[citation needed] The environmental software the company has worked on includes hydrological information systems, grid computing and future climate modelling.
- Instrumentation: Tessella has built long-term relationships with many instrumentation manufacturers. As well as software for existing intrumentation, the company aims to support emerging technologies.
- Life Sciences: Tessella is one of the UK's largest independent suppliers of software solutions to the biotech, pharmaceutical and medical community,[citation needed] with a growing presence in the US market. Tessella provides software different stages of the drug development lifecycle to pharmaceutical, bioinformatics and pharmacogenomics companies.
- Manufacturing & Engineering: Tessella provides services to different stages of the manufacturing process. The company's clients include many major household names and range from small to large international enterprises.[citation needed]
- Public Sector: Tessella has its origins in developing software for government funded research laboratories and continues to provide services to the sector. Services Tesella provides flood protection and digital preservation projects.
- Transport:Tessella works on transport systems solutions such as traffic modelling, decision support systems, asset (vehicle, road, rail) condition monitoring, and rail track design.
- Utilities: Tessella experience includes power station control to telephone billing and from the integrity of gas pipelines to water purity.

The Tessella Group Head Office and largest branch office is in Abingdon, Oxfordshire, UK. There are further UK branch offices in Burton upon Trent, Cambridge, Warrington and Winchester, as well as the Analyticon Head Office which is in Stevenage.
In continental Europe, Tessella has an office in Den Haag, the Netherlands, and also has two US offices in Boston, MA and Washington, D.C.
