[edit] Welcome

Hello, TerriersFan, and welcome to Wikipedia! I am Deepu Joseph. Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

[edit] VBN Project

Hey, thanks for your message. Knowing someone is actually interested helps a lot! I'll try to have the stuff for you buy this Sunday; I've not actually written that much to be honest, but I'll tackle it this week sometime.--The Wizard of Magicland 22:38, 11 September 2006 (UTC)

I've got the section for you - about 300 words on why its vulnerable and so on. However...the article's down! I figure I'll leave what I've got til the proper one is back up and running? Just give me a shout when you want it!--The Wizard of Magicland 17:10, 17 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] WikiProject Contract bridge

Hi. You might be interested in participating in new Wikipedia:WikiProject Contract bridge. Regards, Duja 10:17, 28 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Anne Frank's cats

You previously contributed to this article (posibly when it was Moortje) but it has been AfDed and I wonder if you'd consider passing comment. Robertsteadman 07:36, 30 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Comments in page

Hi, you shouldn't write comments on any main page (do that on the discussion page). You did this at WP:NNOT. Main pages are for "final" reader content only. However, your comments are appreciated and i'll move them to the discussion page. Welcome to wikipedia! Fresheneesz 20:25, 4 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Tim Crutchfield

Saw the AfD on the Tim Crutchfield page, but it doesn't link to an AfD page? Sandy 22:01, 4 July 2006 (UTC)

Hi - still writing it :-) TerriersFan 22:05, 4 July 2006 (UTC)
It's there now! TerriersFan 22:14, 4 July 2006 (UTC)
Thanks ! Sandy 22:17, 4 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] re Redirecting to Biological reproduction

I just fixed the dual redirects. On format issues, consult the Manual Of Style.

ShakespeareFan00 17:49, 5 July 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for doing that.TerriersFan 19:31, 5 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks for the note

Will work on finding attribution as required, and on getting proper notability for the one page. Areopagiticus 23:41, 7 July 2006 (UTC)

Sounds good; let me know if you need help. TerriersFan 23:42, 7 July 2006 (UTC)
I may need help in getting the notes to show up properly. I didn't manage it with the one that I tried to place, but I'll poke around and ask you in a few days if I can't manage it by looking behind the scenes and seeing how they work. The citation pages are not particularly helpful; I may suggest changes for them when I actually understand the process.Areopagiticus 23:48, 7 July 2006 (UTC)
I have fixed the references for you. This press release needs to be loaded up on a website somewhere so that editors can check it - the reference would then need to be to that weblink. HTH. TerriersFan 00:52, 8 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Taxicab

What talk? Where do taxi cab and social issue belong then, these are significant issues in the US --matador300 01:43, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

It's there now. Naturally, those are important issues that are rightly placed here. For discussion the talk page is the place but if you are able to source some facts or research then in the article is fine. I am sorry about taking it out; I don't like undoing other editors hard work, but I think it does need a revamp. TerriersFan 01:50, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Tesco

They do indeed rent out DVDs. It's another rebranded exercise (like they do with Tesco mobile phones, which is O2) - in this case it's LoveFilm rebranded as Tesco DVD Rental. I've added a ref to the article. --Oscarthecat 22:15, 27 July 2006 (UTC)

That's fine - I should like to thank you for this constructive response. TerriersFan 23:09, 27 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Tesco, Southport

Couldn't believe it when I saw that picture of the Tesco in Southport! Was on a vacation in Liverpool in March and we visited Southport several times, I swear I saw that Tesco everytime we drove into Southport. Well anyways, you have alot of great photographs, very proffesional looking! By the way, congratulations on your award! Decimal10 05:13, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

Thank you for your sentiments - glad you enjoyed the pictures. Hope that you took good memories of the UK back home. TerriersFan 00:24, 31 July 2006 (UTC)

Hello! I had passed your request over to Bhadani (talk contribs) as I do not hold sysOp privllages. However I noticed that he hasnt taken any action yet. Perhaps it is because it is unnecessary to delete the old version. Is there any particular reason why you need it to be deleted? Waiting for your reply.-- thunderboltza.k.a.Deepu Joseph |TALK12:03, 4 August 2006 (UTC)~

Because it contains a name and email address that I don't want publicised. They were included by mistake. TerriersFan 19:08, 4 August 2006 (UTC)
Hello. Nice meeting you. What you exactly want to get deleted? --Bhadani 13:09, 5 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] NESH from OED

Nesh
[Cognate with early modern Dutch, Dutch regional (West Flemish) nesch, nisch soft (of eggs), damp, sodden, foolish (16th cent.), Gothic hnasqus soft, tender. A connection with Old High German nascon and its cognates in sense ‘to eat dainty food or delicacies’ (see NOSH v.) has been suggested, but seems unlikely.
The further etymology of the word is unclear: it has been suggested that it is related to Sanskrit kiknasa particles of ground grain (of rice), flesh of rice (represented in only one corrupt late Vedic text, with variants caknasa, cikkasa, in context implying an unattested compound pista-cikkasa particle of flour, from which some have posited a Sanskrit root cikk- to hurt) and further with Latvian regional knost, knosit to peck at plumage with the beak, pluck, beat (cf. Latvian knosities to scratch oneself), but the connection between the two is difficult to make, and their joint connection with the Germanic word is not generally accepted.]

A. adj.

1. a. Soft in texture or consistency; yielding easily to pressure or force. In later use chiefly: tender, succulent, juicy.
b. In extended use: soft, not harsh or violent. Obs. rare.
c. Damp, moist, wet, chilly.
2. Lacking courage, spirit, or energy; timid, faint-hearted; lazy, negligent. Now Eng. regional, chiefly north. rare.
3. a. Mild, gentle, kind; inclined to pity, mercy, etc. Obs.
b. Easily yielding to temptation; inclined to lust or wantonness. Obs.
4. a. Delicate, weak, sickly, feeble; unable to endure fatigue, etc.; susceptible (to cold, etc.).
b. Fastidious, squeamish, dainty.

B. n. Usually in collocation with hard.
a. That which is soft; spec. soft ground. Also used (in pl.) of people. Obs.
b. Mild or gentle treatment. Obs.
c. in nesh and hard and variants: under all or any circumstances. Obs.
d. for nesh or hard and variants: = in nesh and hard. Obs.

C. adv. Softly; {dag}gently, mildly (obs.). Also: timidly, feebly.
to die nesh: to give in easily, to give up readily.

Hello -- I notice you removed my attestation to usage of 'nesh' in Shropshire, Manchester and other places. I agree that my observations of this usage (by my mother and by friends in Manchester and Yorkshire) are 'original research' but they are nonetheless true and form part of their ordinary modern-day language. With best wishes, John Warburton 00:09, 30 January 2007 (UTC)

Good point and thank you for your interest in this article. I have copied this to the Nesh talk page in the hope that someone can source it. TerriersFan 04:00, 30 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Disambiguation style

Hello there,

I've reverted some of your edits to Taxi, and wanted to let you know why. The Manual of Style for Disambiguation Pages lays out what is appropriate for disambiguation pages. Among other things, red links are allowed if it's possible an article could be written on the subject. Additionally, links should not be piped on disambiguation pages. If you have any other quesiton about disambiguation pages, feel free to ask me. -- Natalya 05:20, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

I have restablished the headings style as per the example in WP:MOSDP#Longer lists and repeated the small reorganisation e.g. air taxi to transport which seems appropriate and also Taxi (advertising agency) to a more prominent position (I have recently moved this from TAXI so it need to be found easily). I have left the red links as you suggest. I have also removed some exisiting piping.
My apologies for one explanation, piping links is okay when titles of things are being italicized. I should have clarified it before, and will take care of fixing it. The piping section of the MoS lists such exceptions. As for the section headers, the section mentions that for excessively long list, section 2 headers are appropriate; the list of articles at Taxi seems to be verging on that length, but the way you have put it looks nice now, so it should be good. Thanks for helping to clean things up. -- Natalya 20:51, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] YCCC

I agree that it should be discussed and a consensus reached but it does need a review to make sure it covers the whole of the club's history. I think I'll also introduce a captains section as per a few similar articles. Lets hope we can stay in Division One! All the best. --BlackJack | talk page 05:16, 2 September 2006 (UTC)

Thanks. I like the way you've formatted it. It's looking a good article now while nearly all the other counties are still very stubbish. I'm trying to input the early history of each county, creating a separate article if there was a first-class team before the county club. I've done Yorkshire and Sussex and am doing Notts now. Regards. --BlackJack | talk page 13:39, 2 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Taxicabs in Mexico City

Hello TerriersFan,

I would like to contribute to this article section, however I don't know where to start and neither hace the time to do it. Taxicabs in Mexico City is currently a very complex subject. It involves a whole load of political and social issues, ranging from the cost of a Taxicab service licence to the corruption of the authorities and tolerance of 'pirata' taxis. Most information is very hard to source, itself beeing common knowledge among citizens of Mexico City, but commonly unavailable on the media. There are some points that must be covered to make this a moderately good section.

-History of taxicabs (taxicabs in mexico have changed a lot troughout the years and continue to change). -The 'Pirata' taxis -Safety condiderations when boarding a Mexican taxicab. (very important, not every taxicab is safe) -Mexican taxicab fares -The aesthetics of the Mexican taxicab.

On August 18 you deleted a post I made about the tolerance of Mexico City police and the unions who provide legal shields for 'pirata' taxis. You deemed the information as POV and unsourced. Unfortunately it is not a POV, it is a fact that everybody is able to confirm asking almost every person in the city and almost every cabdriver. This information is hard to source, however if you can speak spanish you can check here:

[1] [2] [3]

Also, I added an image of a taxicab in Mexico City, at first sight it might appear a joke. However, modifications to taxicabs are commonplace. In fact, most taxis on the city have some form of aesthetic enhancement.

I am glad that the article whose split you carried out (and I proposed), is getting better every day. Thanks for your continued effort on this article which I believe is relevant for the community.

Please provide some feedback about what I wrote. Also, as you may hace already noticed, my english is far from perfect. I also have very few time to edit, as I am extremely busy at this time so I may delay a bit on my answer. --pptudela 21:23, 7 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] re: 82.198.250.80 - vandalism

Hi TerriersFan. I'm not very active on en-WP anymore, hence the slow response. I haven't had time to review the edits coming from the IP, but if it is extremely excessive, it might be time to contact their ISP. I don't really have much to say beyond that, but good luck in dealing with it. Thanks! --PS2pcGAMER (talk) 10:45, 11 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Developing Leadership Capacities Through Action Inquiry

You wrote: "it should then be quickly closed after just one more comment". The votes for deletion are closed after certain time, not the amount of comments. A suspicious article cannot sit here forever. The total number of comments and discussion time (23 August... 29 aug.... 2 Sept... 10 Sept... 15 Sept...) is enough. The qualified score is 3 keeps against 9 deletes. `'mikka (t) 01:24, 18 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] re Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Derrick Lonsdale (2nd nomination)

Well, it was closed as No Consensus To Delete. There were only three commentors, besides the nominator. If had been closed as Keep that'd be one thing, but as far as I know a No Consensus To Delete can be taken right back to AfD. Thanks for alerting me, though. [edit] Grenada Trades Union Council

Hi TerriersFan. I'm going to move this article back into the Category:Trade unions of Grenada in keeping with the format at Category:Trade unions by country. I realize that there is only one entry for the category, but that will hopefully change as additional Grenada related labour articles are created. Cheers.--Bookandcoffee 00:46, 28 September 2006 (UTC)

OK; thanks for letting me know. TerriersFan 00:48, 28 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:TaxiCab.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:TaxiCab.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}. If you have not already done so, please also include the source of the image. In many cases this will be the website where you found it.

Please specify the copyright information and source on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me, or ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. P.S. please also add more specific source (i.e. link to website you found that image on). YellowDot 20:36, 2 October 2006 (UTC)

Exactly same issue with Image:USACab.JPG YellowDot 20:52, 2 October 2006 (UTC)
Image:TaxiCab.jpg was taken from the Russian Wikipedia where it is Изображение:TaxiCab.jpg so the copyright status will be on that page. Also Image:USACab.JPG comes from another Wikipedia with the name Εικόνα:DSCN1386.JPG TerriersFan 22:33, 2 October 2006 (UTC)
First, on general copyrights: {{wikipedia-screenshot}} can only be used if you take screenshot of some Wikipedia page. It can only be used of images of Wikipedia website. It cannot be used on photos of objects. If you copy and image from somewhere, you need to maintain the same copyright status, identify author, and provide link to source so that your claims could be verified.
Second, on USACab: if you go on description page on EL Wikipedia, you will see that it was copied from EN Wikipedia, Image:DSCN1386.JPG. Therefore, I added speedy deletion template to USACab as it is exact duplicate.
Third, on TaxiCab: if you go to Russian description page, you will see that it does not have a copyright tag either. It has a long description that I cannot read or understand. Either case, it should be extremely easy to get a free & clean copy as taxi cabs should be abundant in UK and you (as far I understand) live there. YellowDot 01:39, 3 October 2006 (UTC)
Ok, just next time, please save the trouble and add adequate description to images you upload, ok? YellowDot 02:27, 3 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Old Trafford Cricket Ground

In the same site, the directions page clearly refers to the title as above. If you do a Google on "Old Trafford Cricket Ground", it produces several finds. Bear in mind that the upper case is key to this as a full name. I'll await the result of your discussion with interest. All the best. --BlackJack | talk page 14:33, 15 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Palmer Bus Co.

Hello, and thanks for your note. I deleted this because from the information available, it is a school bus company, of which there are many in Minnesota. The article from which I deleted it does not deal with specialized transportation such as school buses. As I understand Wikipedia policy external links should be few in number, and while I am do not doubt that Palmer is an important company in its field it did not seem particularly relevant or notable to the article's subject. But if you want to discuss it further maybe we could move it to the talk page of the article and see what others think. Thanks. Kablammo 02:38, 27 November 2006 (UTC)

I see you have already posted it to the talk page so I will reply further there. Thank you. Kablammo 02:42, 27 November 2006 (UTC)

Please familiarise yourself with Wikipedia policy before criticising other editors. TerriersFan 01:49, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] That junior high

Thanks for taking care of it. When I tagged it originally, it just said something to effect of 'we rock! etc' But you were right to remove the tag. Czolgolz 22:36, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re Clayton Mark

It's fine removing the tag, I was in a hurry and put on a tag that might not have been the most ... discreet and accurate. A MfD might be in order but I'll see about it.

[edit] Women's Eights Head of the River Race

I notice you nominated this article for deletion - your concern was that it was a non-notable university race.

The WEHoRR is not a University race at all - although many universities do take part. It's actually a national event - and probably the most important head race for women in the UK. It is the women's equivalent to the Head of the River Race. Nearly 300 entries were received in 2006 from clubs all over the UK, and many others from European clubs.

As such, I've removed the "prod" template - it most definitely is notable, however the page was only created a couple of days ago, and is in a very fledgling state. The page now also falls within the almost equally fledgling rowing WikiProject, so hopefully it'll receive some attention soon. Richard B 01:16, 8 December 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for that, Richard. However, the article is badly in need of sourcing and some content to demonstrate notability. TerriersFan 03:16, 8 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] About phobia stubs

Hi TerriersFan, i created myself the stub and realize the same day it didnt met several criteria for stub templates so then i put it for speedy deletion. Sorry for trouble. Frédérick Lacasse 12:28, 9 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] 216.106.185.169 & Vandalism

Hello, Sorry about the previous vandalism from 216.106.185.169 for E-Mail spoofing. We understand this is a serious issue. If you can (I am not sure how it works exactly) please disable 216.106.185.169 from editing wikipedia. This is something one of our employees seems to have done, as this is a place of business we do not need people editing wikipedia at all. Due to the nature of our work we cant just block it as non-filtered internet access is required for employees to do their jobs. So if its at all possible please let us keep viewing wikipedia open but block us from editing (if you can.) If not please suggest what we could do to get in contact with someone that can do this for us. Thank you for your time and have a great night! [edit] Brown Deer High School

Hi there; no, that is obviously a perfectly satisfactory stub, and I would not dream of attempting any kind of deletion process. As you say, in its original form it was ripe for {{speedy}}, and now it's not. Great.--Anthony.bradbury 19:53, 18 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Taximeter

Many of the info that I added in the spanish version, and then translate to the english version are form those sites that you delete; mainly from http://www.relojerialeo.com.ar/.

Hi, I don't know Spanish so the link that you refer to doesn't mean anything to me. I am not sure what are the deletions to which you refer. Please give me the diffs and I'll look into them. TerriersFan 01:48, 20 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] High Schools

Hi there; thank you for your comment telling me that High Schools were inherently notable: I was not aware of that. I would be most grateful if you would direct me to the piece of Wiki Policy you are quoting.--Anthony.bradbury 23:06, 20 December 2006 (UTC)

There is no policy in that two attemts has now failed twice to establish one (a third attempt is underway!). However, what I was quoting was consensus from very many AfDs. Elementary schools do get deleted from time to time but no high school ever has been; they are considered to be significant in the community. The practice that I would recommend when you see one of these empty articles (which appear quite often), and if you don't fancy stubbing it, is to redirect to the school board article (if there is one) or else put a one liner in the locality article and redirect there. [edit] Asian Babes

Hi - Could I ask you to please take a break from editing Asian Babes for about an hour? I'm still editing the article and am running into edit conflicts with you. I'd really appreciate it, thanks.Chidom talk  02:48, 23 December 2006 (UTC)

Not a problem. You might find it helps in such circumstances to put an {{editing}} tag on. TerriersFan 02:51, 23 December 2006 (UTC)
All done for now (and it was longer than an hour, sorry). And thanks for the heads up; I had no idea there was such a thing! Have good days.Chidom talk  04:12, 23 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] proposed deletion of Guy Grundy

I have removed the {{prod}} tag from Guy Grundy, which you proposed for deletion, because I feel that this article should not be deleted from Wikipedia. I'm leaving this message here to notify you about it. If you still feel the article should be deleted, please don't add the {{prod}} template back to the article. Instead, feel free to list it at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion. Thanks! -- Chrislk02 (Chris Kreider) 19:22, 27 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] on deletion of images of children

I am willing to accept your reasoning for removing the children's chess tournament picture from the Chess article, but I would first need to see a formal Wikipedia regulation to that effect. Failing that, I am inclined to restore the image. Regards, Haiduc 16:52, 28 December 2006 (UTC)

It is a question of law not policy; see Children's Online Privacy Protection Act. Whilst this Act does not specifically mention images the rules encompass them. Whether this particular image needs a release is a grey area and a matter of interpretation. However, we should play safe and not take the slightest risk of putting the Project at risk for sake of an image. There is, though, a further consideration - these days many parents are (rightly or wrongly) becoming more protective of their children. Posting recognisable images on the Internet, without suitable releases, is not socially responsible. As for reinstating the image unilaterally, that would be a bad move. The way forward is, as you yourself suggested on the talk page, to wait and see if /another/ editor restores it. TerriersFan 00:33, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for what you've been doing with the Parkton, Maryland and Hereford High School articles. I didn't see the full edit history until now, and your contributions have been impressive; I'm sure the article would have been deleted had you not added what you did. By the way, would it be appropriate to move the page to Hereford High School (I have no experience with school articles). —ShadowHalo 11:38, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

And thanks to you too; its been a joint effort. I spend a lot of time on C:CSD rescuing such articles - too many editors knee-jerk to delete bad articles rather than cleaning them up.
I wouldn't want to move the Hereford High School page. There is also a Hereford High School in Hereford, Texas. What is needed (and I'll do it shortly) is to make Hereford High School a DMB page to encourage the production of articles. HTH. TerriersFan 20:01, 30 December 2006 (UTC)
Sounds good, thanks for creating that. —ShadowHalo 08:30, 31 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Hanging

Hi, I noticed that you had changed the headings for each country in Hanging. These had been changed to avoid having them in the TOC, as it tends to become quite large. Could you please reconsider, and reply at Talk:Hanging? Thanks, Bjelleklang - talk 06:38, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

File note - this has now been sorted and agreed by keeping the headings but putting the ToC on the right. TerriersFan 03:26, 12 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Ashley treatment

Thank you for fixing up the references in Ashley treatment, I didn't know how to do it properly. Rosemary Amey 01:23, 12 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] AfD nomination of Sandilands Junior School

An editor has nominated Sandilands Junior School, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not"). Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Sandilands Junior School and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. [edit] OT Cricket Ground

Given the consensus reached on the basis of the link you provided, I'd appreciate it if you could go ahead and move Old Trafford (cricket ground) to Old Trafford Cricket Ground. The move request has been open far too long. DJR (T) 02:01, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

I agree that this needs to be closed out but it requires an admin since the page has an edit history. The move will be made once an admin decides that there has been sufficient discussion; all Requested Moves are kept under review. TerriersFan 23:52, 19 February 2007 (UTC)
I was under the impression you were an admin...? How did you move the pages over redirects initially? DJR (T) 00:01, 20 February 2007 (UTC)
I do need to get round to applying to being an admin since there are a lot of tasks that need sorting but I haven't as yet ... I can move pages over a redirect but in this case there is an edit history so it is a matter of waiting for an admin to turn up I am afraid. TerriersFan 01:11, 20 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] merged taxi articles

Hi Terriers Fan - I agree with your assessment that the NYC taxicab article shared a lot of overlap with the US taxicab article. However, the New York City taxi is something of an icon in its own right. Taxis in Singapore and Hong Kong have specific articles about them. Given the high degree of regulation and uniqueness of NYC taxis, and their status in NYC's transportation mix, it makes sense that NYC taxis have a specific article covering them, too. Also, after merging the NYC taxi article into the US article the result is too lengthy and cumbersome and begs for breaking down the article in sub-articles again.

The best way to resolve the problem of overlap is to edit the content of the articles. The US article should discuss generalized, national issues, while the NYC taxi article should cover issues specific to NYC (of which there are many).

For these reasons I'd kindly ask you to undo the merge and address your legitimate concerns by editing the texts of the two articles. (I have just spent many hours overhauling the Transportation in New York City article in much the same way; yes, it takes time, but the final result is better quality.)

Thanks for your consideration. Momos 19:31, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Good Job

Good job cleaning up BTMES. SERSeanCrane 03:50, 21 February 2007 (UTC)

Thank you. TerriersFan 03:54, 21 February 2007 (UTC)

Thanks

Thank you for cleaning up BTMES. Not quite sure how you know about it or how you found it, but thanks a lot. Bmrbarre 21:38, 21 February 2007 (UTC)

Hi, thank you for that. I live in the UK so I know nothing about the school:-) However, my philosophy is that the Project is better served by developing articles rather than deleting them. Therefore, I keep an eye on Speedy Deletions and AfDs to look for articles that can be 'saved'; I do this by researching and sourcing notable connections, to comply with Wikipedia policy - I'm glad that you approve. TerriersFan 03:00, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

You're welcome. That's a great policy, and the third party edits really help the articles. Thanks again, Bmrbarre 20:43, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Help

You seem to know a lot about the notability policy and just Wikipedia in general, so could you please help me this one time, or at least give me some advice on how to stick up for my articles. See Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Fred_Swan please. Thanks, Bmrbarre 23:39, 25 February 2007 (UTC) Drop me a note

I have cleaned the article up a bit. Two avenues are needed to ensure that an article is kept:
I have supported the retention of the article since the AfD is premature but long term independent references are the key to an article being kept. Please get back to me if I can help further. TerriersFan 00:32, 26 February 2007 (UTC)
The Original Barnstar
Thanks for doing what you do. SERSeanCrane 01:32, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks

Thank you so much for the help. You saved the article, and you got a Barn Star! Sweet! SERSeanCrane suggested that I get adopted, and I was thinking that perhaps you might be interested, or at least be able to tell me what that entails. Bmrbarre 13:42, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

Please consider yourself adopted! Nothing dramatic is involved (you don't need to leave home or anything :-) ) and simply come here if you need help. If you get into scrapes the adopted box on your user page might encourage other editors to speak with me before firing off in your direction. You might also like me to look at draft articles in your user space before launching them on an unsuspecting world! TerriersFan 17:39, 26 February 2007 (UTC)
Sweet! Thanks so much. I think I'm going to need this. I just finished my (probably) best article and my only full-length one. It's called Stowe Recreation Path, and I think I did things pretty right. I sourced well, which I've had problems with, and made sure I made it clear that it was notable. If you want to check it out, that would be great. Maybe some suggestions...Bmrbarre 20:09, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] AfD

Thought I'd let you know that someone has nominated an article by your adoptee for deletion. See Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Saint_Monica's_Church. SERSeanCrane 04:28, 28 February 2007 (UTC)

Thank you; that's helpful. TerriersFan 10:51, 28 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Stowe and AFD

Thank you so much for the tips. I'll have to work on that in the future. Is there an easy way to get the | thing? I have to copy one from another article every time I use one. It's really annoying. Yeah, Saint Monica's Church got nominated, but I think it's going to be kept. It's got a school, it's 120 years old, and it's the largest parish in Vermont: what else do I need? Jeez. Sometimes...oh well. Hopefully it'll be stronger article if it gets kept. Bmrbarre 18:45, 28 February 2007 (UTC)

The '|' is the shifted '\' which in turn is the key immediately to the right of the Shift key. TerriersFan 18:47, 28 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Montgomery High School (Blackpool)

Thank you for your work improving this article. It has allowed me to change my vote to "keep". My dad would be pleased if he had any idea what Wikipedia is! Jules1975 10:12, 1 March 2007 (UTC)

I second that. Excellent work. I changed my vote. --ubiquity 12:54, 1 March 2007 (UTC)
Thank you. TerriersFan 16:42, 1 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Saint Monica's Church, Barre

Just to let you know - I moved the article to Saint Monica's Church (Barre, Vermont) because article titles should reflect the actual name, with disambiguation in parentheses (as with Montgomery High School (Blackpool), above). I don't really see how parentheses are more "ugly" than a comma. I realize there's variation in current titling for churches in this regard (see Category:Roman Catholic cathedrals of the United States for examples), but Barre isn't a well-known location, and the inclusion of Vermont in the title helps readers grasp the region more quickly. Category:Roman Catholic churches in Iowa, for instance, runs more uniformly toward parentheses. I wasn't trying to step on toes, just reaching for titling uniformity; IMO, St. Monica's Church, Santa Monica tends toward confusion as to whether you're indicating a location or a transliteration. MisfitToys 22:38, 3 March 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for this. If you still want to move the article please put the point on the talk page and I will abstain and go along with the majority. TerriersFan 00:22, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Fred Swan Blue Moon.jpg

I think that we could have a problem with the licensing of this image. On reflection this looks as if it was lifted from the specified website which is a definite 'no, no'. I think more information about its providence is needed :-( TerriersFan 02:49, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

I know. And I have no clue how to get an image onto the page. I can't find any pictures of him, and his artwork is clearly commercial, so I can't use that. Can I take a picture of one of his prints that hangs on my wall and then use that? Would it be considered my own work?
I am looking into the options but since it was created after 1922 by a living artist I suspect that there is no way to include an image. TerriersFan 22:49, 5 March 2007 (UTC)
On pages like Picasso and Dali, they use the artist's work. How is that possible, then? Bmrbarre 00:03, 6 March 2007 (UTC)
On the Picasso page they use an exemption for pre-1922 art however the Dali image uses a 'fair use' licence which I have just tracked down. After I have added the new licence it would be helpful to add a short analysis of the painting since the fair use applies to an article that includes a 'critical commentary'. HTH. TerriersFan 00:12, 6 March 2007 (UTC)
I was discussing that with SERSeanCrane on the Talk Page. I'm pretty sure that'll work. Thanks. Bmrbarre 13:20, 6 March 2007 (UTC)
And I need some help on redirecting. I created a page entitled Mining in Roman Britain, and I linked a few pages to it, but no one is going to type in Mining in Roman Britain. I mean, come on. So, how can I get people to the article if they type in a different title?
I have created an example redirect page Roman mining. You can see how its done here TerriersFan 22:49, 5 March 2007 (UTC)
Thanks. That's helpful. Bmrbarre 00:03, 6 March 2007 (UTC)
And as a side note, have you ever seen Bethanie Mattek play (I'm assuming you have)? She got crushed by Williams (I think it was one of the williams sisters...), but I remember the fashion statement. She looked like she had been given 5 minutes to prepare an 80's costume.
I have seen her play on TV but not live. I created the article because I was fascinated by her bizarre dress sense :-) TerriersFan 22:49, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

L'Accordéoniste did actually have a copyright tag. The image description page was blanked [4] by an anon before you came across it. --Iamunknown 20:16, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for spotting this - I have now sorted things. TerriersFan 02:55, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
No problem. I spotted it because I browse through Category:Articles that include images for deletion at least once daily, and Picasso was definitely a new entry! --Iamunknown 04:09, 8 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Roberson HS

You're probably correct. That book is the same source for the Stonewall Masonic Lodge article. The "first recorded health program" paragraph in roberson HS is verbatim from the book that Blueboar has posted in the AfD (p. 31). Not all of the text in the book is in the article, but what's considered relevant is word-for-word the same, so I believe COPYVIO applies. MSJapan 23:10, 8 March 2007 (UTC)

Congrats! Now we both have one! Yeah. I see that you fit Fred Swan into the Chocolate box art article. Is that what led you to it? Bmrbarre 02:01, 10 March 2007 (UTC)
Thank you. You are quite right; I needed a line to justify the fair use on the Blue Moon picture and that led me to fill in the gap. It provided a further incoming link to your article too. I also couldn't have my adoptee having one up over me :-) TerriersFan 18:03, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Schools articles

As requested, comments added on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Sarina State High School and Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Arlington Country Day School. I am sick of attacks on school articles (I had a major battle myself on schools in Northern Ireland) by people who find it easier to complain than to improve the articles. Happy to help any way I can. Ardfern 23:14, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Specialist School/College status

Just a quick one in reference to St Thomas More High School for Boys AfD, being a specialist college doesn't actually mean you're any good at that subject - it's purely a money game. A school decides they're going to be 'specialist' in some subject or other, and then has to raise £150K of sponsorship from local business etc. If they achieve that, the money is matched by the Government for 3 years (£450K!) OK, after 3 years the Govt can turn round and say 'actually, your results in Maths (or whatever) are rubbish, we're taking the status off you', but what school would turn down the cash in the meantime? As an example, my wife used to work at a school which was a specialist Performing Arts college. Their results in that subject were the worst in the school :) EliminatorJR Talk 01:21, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] St Thomas More High School For Boys

Thanks for your fantastic contributions to St Thomas More High School For Boys. It has turned out to be a very good article. It was just I was called into the school head's office the other day and he asked me all about this article and that the place to go for info was the main website. He was also disappointed about the scandal article previously placed on there but that has been fixed and hopefully will no longer be vandalized. He did ask for it to be deleted but it looks like it's going the other way, and plus there is good reasons not to. Again, thanks for your contributions. Olzone 21:43, 16 March 2007 (UTC) olz06

Holy cow, congrats on all these awards and dyk's! You're doing great. I'm gonna start calling you butter, 'cause you're on a roll! Just started a new article (after eating there) called Gesine's Confectionary. I proposed it to be on the main page, so you may want to check it out. Bmrbarre 01:13, 17 March 2007 (UTC)

LOL -I'll remember that one! I'll have a better look at it tomorrow but meanwhile I have got the external link working and done some initial tidying.

[edit] Trinity Christian High School

Thanks for your efforts at Trinity Christian High School and elsewhere to improve school articles. I have found it remarkably easy to improve articles, especially for high schools, and I find the spate of school AfDs so remarkably frustrating. It's great to have ate least one kindred spirit out there who agrees that these articles should be improved rather than deleted, and has taken the concrete steps to do so. Alansohn 03:36, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

Thank you, always happy to help. I agree with you about the number of AfDs; I think that these were spurred by the failure of the last schools policy proposal and shows we need to get one through to save time all round. That will require hard compromises on both sides but it is debatable whether the will is there :-( TerriersFan 03:40, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
Don't give up on that! It would be such a boon to the community if we could solve this. I'm optimistic that somebody will hit on something acceptable enough to both sides at some point. Would you be interested in allowing all schools through an article on each school district, with subsections for the individual schools? That way, they would be self-standing from their towns, but there would be a place for all of them here. I would support that as a compromise, but I can only speak for myself. --Butseriouslyfolks 05:37, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
For many US schools that would be a way forward provided really notable schools (and there are some :-)) retained their own articles. It wouldn't work for UK schools because Local Education Authorities, the UK equivalent have several times more schools and the articles wouls be too unweildy. Nonetheless it is a good idea for us to buld in. TerriersFan 16:16, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] FNFL

I have the impression that your are surprised by Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/FNFL (American football), perhaps I should have elaborated : the content of FNFL (American football) was created by User:Leelad93 under FNFL. I deleted this text and replaced it with a redirect to Forces navales françaises libres (this is more the sort of article that I tend to create) ; this action was contested by User:Leelad93, so I moved his text to FNFL (American football) and proposed it for deletion. I am of the same opinion as you regarding the fate of this article. Rama 13:05, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Scottsdale Gun Club

Thank you for your help so far on the Scottsdale Gun Club entry. As is probably clearly obvious, I'm new to Wiki. Any of my actions that appear untoward are most certainly not, I'm still learning rules, regulations, policies and procedures here at Wikipedia. My biggest concern is that the entire entry is going to be removed/deleted before I'm capable of meeting compliance. Again, thank you for your help. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Scottsdalegunclub (talkcontribs).
