[edit] Playing career

A defenseman in his playing days, Murray was drafted by the California Golden Seals in the 1970 NHL Entry Draft. He would go on to also play for the Philadelphia Flyers, Detroit Red Wings, and Washington Capitals. He would play for the Capitals in his final season as an active player in 1981-82, and upon his retirement would become an assistant coach under his brother Bryan who was the Capitals' head coach.

[edit] Coaching career

Murray would serve as an assistant coach with the Capitals, and then later as head coach of their AHL affiliate the Baltimore Skipjacks before replacing his brother as Capitals' head coach in the middle of the 1989-90 NHL season, and would guide them to their first semifinals appearance. He would coach the Capitals until the middle of the 1993-94 NHL season when he was replaced by Jim Schoenfeld.

After a brief coaching stint as head coach of the Cincinnati Cyclones in the IHL, he would become head coach of the Philadelphia Flyers. In 1996-97 he would guide the Flyers to the finals eventually losing to the Detroit Red Wings. Despite this accomplishment, he would be fired. Murray would later coach the Florida Panthers for several seasons.

Murray most recently served as a pro scout for the Philadelphia Flyers over parts of three seasons (2000-01 to 2002-03).

Terry Murray was named Assistant Coach to the Philadelphia Flyers in 2004.
