Terror of the Ancient Noh Mask (現代によみがえる呪いの能面 Gendai ni Yomigaeru Noroi no Noumen) is the eleventh episode of the anime series InuYasha. It first aired in Japan on January 15, 2001.
Kagome's grandfather is prays in the family temple when suddenly an ancient Noh mask is brought to life by a Shikon Jewel shard and it tries to eat him. Grandpa tries to fight back with his paper incantations, but the Noh mask decides to bury him in the ruins of the shrine instead. Grandpa survives, but needs to stay in the hospital to recover. He is extremely worried because the Noh mask is cursed and he is now afraid of what it will do now that it has escaped. Kagome (who needs to study for a test) and Sota dismiss his story as usual and are left home alone because their mother needs to watch Grandpa overnight.
Little do they know, the Noh mask is actually a demonic mask called the Mask of Flesh. A Shikon Jewel shard was embedded in the tree from which it was made from and gave the mask life. The Mask of Flesh desires a true body and possesses every person who ends up wearing the mask, but each time, the body decays into sludge, leaving the Mask unsatisfied and looking for more victims.
The Mask goes on a rampage, looking for more bodies, but finally decides the best course of action is to recover more jewel shards to gain the demonic ability to maintain a body of its own. It attacks Kagome and Sota to steal Kagome's jewel shards. Kagome escapes from the shrine to a construction site in hopes of keeping the jewel shards from the Mask while she tells Sota to go to the Bone Eater's Well and bring back Inuyasha.
While Sota is unable to go into the past through the well, he is successful calling for Inuyasha, who passes through the well to the modern era. They two of them set to find Kagome. Inuyasha and Kagome destroy the Mask of Flesh just as the night ends. While pleased she has recovered another jewel shard, she is horrified to discover she hasn't studied at all that night and she has a test in only a few hours.
