Terregles

Terregles is a village and parish near Dumfries, in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland. It lies in the former county of Kirkcudbrightshire.
The name Terregles is said to be a corruption of Brythonic Tir-eglwys (Latin terra ecciesici, that is, Kirk land ). The parish contains the beautiful ruin of Lincluden Abbey, and Terregles House, once the seat of William Maxwell, last earl of Nithsdale.
