Teresa Ranieri

Teresa Ranieri (born August 4, 1966) is a contemporary dance choreographer and lecturer.
She got her education first at the Scuola del Teatro Piccinni di Bari, Italy where she had her first stage experiences, dancing the Ballet and neoclassical Repertoire of the Theater company she was studying in. After 6 years, she moved to Naples, Italy, to study at the Lyceum Mara Fusco and finally to Cannes, France, at the Ecole Internationale de danse Rosella Hightower. In 1988 she moved to Germany dancing as a soloist in different main theaters. In 1994 she joined the Tanzwerk Nürnberg under the direction of Dirk Elvert and Jean Renshaw, where she worked with many different choreographers like Roberto Galvan, Jenny Coogan, Rik Kam, Dyane Elsout and Frank Händler, Amanda Miller, Rui Horta, Jacopo Godani and William Forsythe. In 1998 she followed the direction of Tanzwerk Nürnberg to Dortmund Theater. There she worked again with Rui Horta, Amanda Miller and Marc Dandy. In 1999 danced for one season at the Landestheater Linz, Austria, under the direction of Robert Pool. Since July 2000 she works as freelance dancer, choreographer and teacher for ballet and contemporary dance touring in many European countries and Palestine, Japan, Korea. Since 2004 she is also a regular teacher for contemporary dance and choreography at Anton Bruckner University in Linz, Austria and in Escola Superior de Dança in Lisbon, Portugal.
By balancing her experience in classical ballet and contemporary dance, along with her experience in gyrotonic, gyrokenesis and body awareness, Teresa Ranieri creates a class of physical expansion and movement efficiency. This way of working propels the dancer into a state of increased awareness, leaving him/her open for further discovery of the three-dimensional use of space and motion.
For the season 2001/2002 she was invited as Guest Choreographer at Theater Nordhausen, Germany, where she created "From one to zero" In December 2002 she choreographed at the world premiere of Stanley Walden Opera ”Bach letzte Opera” at Theater Erfurt, Germany. She was selected to be one of 6 choreographers of the SIWIC in August 2003 in Zürich, Switzerland, under the direction of Carolyn Carlson. In July 2003 she was invited as choreographer to take part in the project "Colina (Collaboration In Arts)". She was selected to be one of three choreographers from Tanzhaus NRW, Germany, to take part at the "Dance Link NL & NRW" in December 2003 at Korzo Theater, Den Haag, Holland. In March 2004 she was the winner of the third choreography price at the "8th. Tanz Solo Festival" in Stuttgart, Germany, with the solo "Libero Arbitrio"(free will). In July 2006 she is invited to choreograph at the “Sommertanz” in Wuppertal, Germany. In August 2006 the Korean Dance Festival in Seoul, Korea, invited for the first time european teachers, being one of two selected. In October 2006 she is invited to choreograph a piece for the postgraduate company “X.IDA” in Linz.
