Teresa Kok

Teresa Kok Suh Sim (Chinese: 郭素沁, born 31 March 1964) is a Malaysian politician and a member of the Democratic Action Party (DAP). She is one of the first women from the Opposition to be elected into the Malaysian parliament's Lower House (Dewan Rakyat). She is a graduate from the University of Malaya and has a degree in philosophy.
Kok represents the constituency of Seputeh in Kuala Lumpur, a DAP stronghold, in Parliament. She is also the DAP Publicity Secretary, the National Secretary of DAP Wanita (the women's wing of the DAP) and a member of the DAP Disciplinary Committee. In Parliament, she is also a member of the Select Committee on Review of Penal Code & Criminal Procedure Code.
She is the Secretary of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Myanmar Caucus and, in this role, has spoken up for a group of Muslim Rohingya refugees focibly repatriated from Malaysia in 2002.
She has been an advocate for privacy and has spoken out against the need for an individual's religion and marital status to be stated on the new national identity card known as MyKad. She is currently unmarried.
