Ter Aar

Ter Aar is a town and former municipality in the western Netherlands, in the province of South Holland. The former municipality covered an area of 21.71 km² (8.38 mile²) of which 2.34 km² (0.90 mile²) is water. Its population was 9,010 in 2004. Ter Aar was merged into the municipality of Nieuwkoop on January 1, 2007.
The name Ter Aar is a derived from De Aar Canal. Originally the community was named Aardam but then changed to Ter Aar.
