[edit] That Artical does not have all the information this artical has
If one artical should be deleated it should be the other one.[[1]] not this. This has more info than that.
we have tried to incorporate the below list to the main artical of LTTE. But the users of that page dont allow any NPOV on that page and our contributions got reverted all the time. Below is the list of attacks we tried to incorporated but they kept deleating them and finally moved in to the descussion page. Then they compleately took off that part from the main LTTE page and opened up a new page to avoid readers to see these attacks. I dont think that this page should be deleted and I vote to keep it. Plus all these attacks are listed as attacks carried out by the LTTE. Why cant we give that information to the readers?? Arent Wikipedia based on facts?----RavenS 03:22, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
- It is listed In MIPT Terrorism Knowledge Base MIPT Terrorism Knowledge Basethat LTTE is a terrorist Group and its listed that the attacks below was carried out by the LTTE in UNHCHR UNHCHR.So I dont see any problem in listing these as "notable attacks" by LTTE.As a matter of fact we are all trying to give the true picture to the world not mislead them.----RavenS 03:22, 31 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Replacing 'Terrorist' with 'Cadre'
Sorry I sound cynical but why bother, this entire article is taken from a GoSL letter to the UNHCR and mostly uncorroborated by third party sources as such it is already quite unbalanced by its very existance. It is nothing more than an attempt to bypass NPOV that was associated with the original 'Notable attacks' article and as such a POVFork.--Realstarslayer 20:55, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
Realstarslayer, "entire article is taken from a GoSL letter to the UNHCR ". Thats just not true. It uses some material from GoSL but other references are used as well. Ruchiraw 01:06, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Corrections that need to be addressed
Ok since it has been determined this article will remain, let us then work towards making it at least factual and finding proper citations for these attacks. Then we can look at merger with the main article as proposed.
- UNHCR links are not valid citations as they only refer to a GoSL letter and should be removed as a GoSL letter cannot be considered an independent citation given that they are party to the conflict. Incidents refered to in this letter also need to be removed unless valid citations can be found.
-
-
- untill the UNHCR is confirmed as a inaccurate and non verifiable source It can be used as a verifyable source.
-
- Source was the Government of Sri Lanka not the UNHCR - not an independent source.--Realstarslayer 19:06, 30 August 2006 (UTC)
-
-
-
- The The communication method that took place to notify these allegation are irrelevant to the topic.
-
-
-
-
- The question is not the method of communication, however the source of those communications. The source was the government of Sri Lanka NOT the UNHCR, thus these items should now be removed as I have not seen any independent citations for the majority. Will be cleaning them up now.--Realstarslayer 19:06, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

- UTHR link actually serves to support claims of the colonisation of Tamil lands by the Sinhala with government support more than it mentions anything about these massacres - well there is one line which indirectly refers to the incident. So I think better citations are needed.

- Madras Airport Blast, Indian investigations showed that it was not the LTTE [2] - needs to be removed (this was cited in the same GoSL letter sent to the UNHCR - thus raising doubts about its credibility).
- "But the Crime Branch/ CID sleuths, working overtime under my direction, detected the case within a week. The investigation revealed the involvement of a small group called TEA (Tamil Ealam Army). Involved in the conspiracy were: (1) the TEA Chief "Panegoda" Maheswaran (so called because of his daring escape from the maximum security prison at Panegoda in Sri Lanka) who was a chemical engineering graduate from London University and an expert in explosives (who, according to a section of the press, was reported to have visited Madras prior to the Rajiv Gandhi assassination). (2) Vigneswara Raja, retired Collector of Customs in Sri Lanka; (3) Thambi Raja, a Sri Lankan national; (4) Vijayakumar, and (5) Loganathan, both Indian nationals working for Air Lanka; and (6) Chandrakumar, a police constable attached to the Airport police station. The objective of the conspirators was not to blast Madras airport, but to plant a bomb on the Air Lanka plane leaving Madras for Colombo, with the timing so adjusted as to have the bomb explode in Colombo airport. The plan misfired because of the delay in the take off of the Air Lanka aircraft. Vigneswara Raja, Thambi Raja, Vijayakumar, Loganathan and Chandrakumar were arrested immediately, while Maheswaran absconded."

- 03.10.2000: An LTTE bomb kills parliamentary candidate Mohammed Baithullah... - citation needed.
[edit] 2001
- Technically by opening discription this does not count as a terrorist attack, no civilians were killed only military personnel and original attack was on the military aribase [3]. It is also listed on notable attacks page so will be sorted out when merged.
[edit] 2006
- Not sure the national park explosion even counts as an attack?
- 13 farm workers - GoSL website is not a valid neutral source, we could just as easily cite the LTTEPS who denied any involvement.
- Bus bombing - the US did not carry out any investigations - the SLMM did - their chief has stated that increasingly it does not look like the LTTE were involved - entry should mention this.
Thus overall the majority of attacks listed here come from a non neutral source, which is a single letter sent to the UNHCR by the GoSL - these must be removed unless valid 3rd party citations can be found for each attack. Otherwise we could just as easily start an article and list every attack mentioned on TamilNet or the LTTEPS and call it fact.

[edit] Removed unverifiable items
As mentioned previously I had posted the complete list of unverifiable items and there has been over 20 days since then. There have been no citations forthcoming for these items and so they have been removed.
If someone wishes to re-add items with a proper citation please do so.

- You still want to be "the big man" remove stuff? Go ahead. Googling any of the things you put citation tags on will immediately have turned up relevant citations. But oh no, you've got to try and delete them don't you?
- But the good thing is I've realized there are a lot of acts of terrorism not listed on this site. I'm going to be adding more when I find them. Some interestiing sites include [4] and [5]. Lot of info in those pages. I'll look into them when I've got more time. So keep watching this space. --snowolfD4( talk / @ ) 01:42, 13 September 2006 (UTC)

- Hi SnowolfD4, if you want some more time to find citations then ok, would a week be reasonable? Also if you going to add more detail to this article then fine, I would welcome more information with appropriate references. Thanks, Addhoc 15:13, 13 September 2006 (UTC)

Hi Realstarslayer , please dont engage in wholesale deletions of material with cited sources. This can be construed as vandalism. As for neutrality of sources , i can see that the article on LTTE and Prabhakans is mostly cited from Tamilnet or not cited at all. Ruchiraw 01:21, 16 September 2006 (UTC)
- It seems only certain users are involved in vnadalism here by readding removed items using teh same n on valid citations, the letter to the UNHCR by the Sri Lankan government is NOT a valid independent citation. I have noted all these items above and will proceed to remove them once again in a few days if no valid citations are forthcoming. Either provide valid citations or stop your vandalism.
- All these citations are taken from one single letter:
-
- With a view to giving a broader perspective of LTTE involvement in persistent and gross violations of the human rights of the different religious and ethnic groups in Sri Lanka, the Government is pleased to annex hereto a copy of letter No. UN/HRTS/1/23 Vol. XVI of 9 August 1994, sent by the Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to the Centre for Human Rights in pursuance of Commission resolution 1994/46 and General Assembly resolution 48/122."
9 August 1994
- Are you telling me then that it is OK for Wikipedia to become an arm of the Sri Lankan government and disseminate their official correspondence?

[edit] Categories
Hi Sebastian
I have added the following categories with reasons
Category:Suicide bombing - this article contains suicide bombings Category:Terrorist incidents - this article contains Terrorist incidents Category:Civilian massacres in Sri Lanka this article contains Terrorist incidents —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Dutugemunu (talk • contribs) 00:20, 30 December 2006 (UTC).
- No - please take the time to understand the policy before you revert edit that specifically refer to a policy. This is exactly the case the policy talks about. (I'm looking it up again for your convenience.) — Sebastian 00:25, 30 December 2006 (UTC)
- Here you go: Wikipedia:Categorization and subcategories says: "In straightforward cases an article should not be in both a category and its subcategory, for example Golden Gate Bridge is in [[Category:Suspension bridges]], so it should not also be in [[Category:Bridges]]." - quoted directly from your talk page. Is there anything I can do to help you understand this? — Sebastian 00:28, 30 December
2006 (UTC)
-
- Hi Sebastian I am actually referring ot this policy Wikipedia:Categorization and subcategories says: "In straightforward cases an article should not be in both a category and its subcategory Reasons for duplication There are some good reasons why duplication is not a problem, but a benefit The basic principle is the duplication makes it easier, not harder, for users to find articles. Different users may think of different categories when they look up their targets, multiple listing or locations enable users to spot their target easily
Wikipedia's categorization scheme allows for multiple taxonomies. This is a good thing and a powerful feature. The categories act as indexes, facilitating users to browse through subjects. Dutugemunu 01:15, 30 December 2006 (UTC)
-
- Therefore anyone looking through teh category civilian massacres in Sri Lanka will miss all teh massacres done by teh LTTE because its not in the right place. Ditto for the suicide bombings and war crimes. It is a case where we duplicate to make the it easier for the user to browse all related articles Dutugemunu 01:15, 30 December 2006 (UTC)
-
-
- We found out what the problem was: I had created Category:Terrorist attacks attributed to the LTTE under Category:Civilian massacres in Sri Lanka. I think his concerns have been addressed when I moved it under Category:War crimes in Sri Lanka on 30 December. — Sebastian 03:32, 6 January 2007 (UTC)
