Tenacious D still needs a lot of work to become Featured.

Here is a list of what needs doing, please strike out <s></s> everything you complete.

  • "Tenacious D are also known by their nickname, "The D"." Unsuitable stubby, "orphan" sentence in the lead.
  • Citations required for the first paragraph under "First album (2001 – 2003)"
  • Prose problems in "Future". Stubby paragraphs and a listy-trivia style.
  • "Although Black and Gass did not initially get along ... " Why? Vague assessment.
  • Some sections need more text, and are, at present, stubby
  • Images need suitable fair use rationales
  • As in this example "described as "mock rock".[2][3][4]", three citations in a row is not recommended, there should only be one
  • "Black, then 16, first met 24-year-old Kyle Gass in Edinburgh, Scotland[5][6] during ..." "In the audience was David Cross,[1] who was later to cast the D in Mr Show.[10]". Try to place citations at the end of the sentence. Cite in the middle, only if it is absolutely necessary.
  • Too many eventuallys: "Although Black and Gass did not initially get along, they eventually worked out their differences.[7] Later, Gass taught Black to play the guitar in exchange for Black helping him with his acting. They eventually formed the band and played their first live show in the now". You see the prose problem?
  • Tense: "While they can both sing and play the guitar, Black is billed as lead singer and Gass as lead guitarist. The band's name is derived from a term used by sportscaster Marv Albert about the tenacious defense of the NBA's New York Knicks.[11][6] The name was decided ... " Inconsistencies in tense need to be reconciled
  • More info about these two international tours is needed:"They have staged two international concert tours". I think more info about these two international tours would be welcome.
  • Prose improvement needed, in the example: "Also in Trainwreck is the actor who plays "Lee", Jason "JR" Reed, who performs lead vocals under the pseudonym "Darryl Donald"
  • Expansion needed for influences. This section is necessary in citing what was said in the second paragraph of the lead
  • "See also" section; more links that are referred to in the main article needed

[edit] "Other Bands" Section slightly inaccurate

Hi there,

I found a little mistake in the section "Other Bands". It states that "the duo" appeared in the Foo Fighters video Low, which is not true. Jack Black alone with Dave Grohl appears in this video. However, Jack Black *and* Kyle Gass appear in the Foo Fighters video "Learn to fly".

Under the section The future and a possible third album the link in Reference 9 which comes after "Gass expressed his desire to curb his work with Tenacious D" is broken. And that's sad. I wanted to read it for myself.

Fixed. It was an Associated Press interview, so other websites featured it. CNN.com had deleted it so I found another news site hosting it.

It doesn't read to me like he really wants to curb work with the band. It's just comes off as an off-hand comment about going out on top. I doubt this is really the end of Tenacious D as the section somewhat implies as it's written now. Maybe it would be written more clearly and kept in?The Myst 12:48, 22 January 2007 (UTC)

I think there needs to be some discussion on the D's politics. I am going to add a paragraph on it. If you want to help me edit it and improve it, here is the basic framework I followed. You can use the links too

From, Sunday Times article ([5]):

"Occasionally, they have essayed something with a little more lyrical sophistication. They even wrote a political song for the film, but intuited it had no place in their comic world-view. It kept its berth on the soundtrack album, though. It’s called The Government Totally Sucks. Black is ambivalent about coming out against the neo-cons. “What good does it do? Literally every celebrity in America came out anti-Bush in full force before the last election. It might have actually hurt. I think the best thing I can do for anti-Bush is just to say nothing.” Gass thinks people say, “‘Who are Barbra Streisand and Warren Beatty supporting? I’m going for the other guy because they’re so annoying.’”

Bush will be gone in another couple of years, however. What is the future for Tenacious D, beyond the five-date tour of the UK in their diary? They are not prolific songwriters. At the going rate, their next album won’t appear until Gass is in his fifties."

You know... Im looking at that section and wondering if it really belongs. Clearly, Jack and Kyle have certain views, but as a band they are only statedly pro-cannabis and anti-authority. They never mention Bush or war, so I think the anti-Iraq War stuff does not belong at all. (the only reason Im posting rather than deleting is that its you who put it in there) Metao 07:41, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

The main points raised were:

  • We need fair-use images, we currently have none
  • The format of references needs changed, to have them after the punctuation

I want to start a paragraph on the influences of Tenacious D, ie who (in music) has influenced Jack and Kyle.

Jack says in an interview:

Simon and Garfunkel, Black Sabbath and Abba. It was Take a Chance on Me - take a chance take a chance - that was the first song I enjoyed.

In addition, when asked who Tenacious D has influenced, he says:

Oh, I really like The Darkness, and no I don't think we influenced them, I think we have some similarities though in that we both make fun of rock while loving it intensely. They're great though. I really love that song that I can't sing it here now. [then proceeds to sing a bit. Ed] Mother Hubbard! That was a freebie, a little private concerto for you…

In another interview, the discussion of influences with the Foo Fighters is raised:

The D are in the Foo Fighters' video Learning to fly and Dave Grohl played drums on your album. Has there been any mutual band influence?

KG: Actually, Dave said that his last record was completely influenced by us.

JB: Yeah, he gave us a little 'thank you'. One of songs on the album, 'Explosivo', was originally going to be a tribute to Kurt Cobain, but the lyrics were pretty bad. Dave Grohl came to one of our early shows and made it known that we were on the same page and that he wanted to be part of our magical mystery tour. And so we exploited that. And now… it’s just a love-fest.

KG: So now he doesn’t call much.

JB: Were you just taking a sip of water?

When asked about his influences he says he draws his inspiration 'from deep within the mind of the superfreak', and his favourite genre of character is the over-confident loser.

Im starting to go through it for tidying up purposes. I did add one thing - the nickname being "The D" - but was unsure how to cite it because... well, its just too obvious to me ;). Im about halfway through I think. I want to redo some of the stuff in the first album section (it seems like some of the stuff about Tribute will be in that article), look at the "work" section, as well as figure out a way to have the Influences, Friendship and Lee sections flow a bit better. At the moment they feel like something tacked on the end. Also, it seems like there should be a lot more See-Alsos than just Trainwreck and Sax-a-Boom... Let me know if you have any contentions. Also, the feature article nom states that the comparisons to bands in the lead are not substantiated later in the article. Metao 00:43, 1 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] The Dust Bowl Cavaliers etc

I have listened to the Bluegrass wrecks the music of TD CD (through myspace and amazon) so I know what it is (ie the female vocals on Jesus Ranch etc).

However, I do not think this is suitable. There are many covers/remixes/tribute bands of Tenacious D (the now defunct Sidehatch, Share Torture Device Vs. Tenacious D's Manager and many tribute bands - I friends in one).
