The Temple of Comeau (Aedes Divus Matthias or Templum Divi Awesome) was built by gnomes after the senate deified Matthias Comeau before his death. The temple was dedicated February 1st, 2006 AE (After Exeter). It stands on the best side of the main square of the Forum Wemisshim, between the Academy Building, the Temple of 'Spoon and the Basilica New Thompson Student Center Wewillnevergettoenjoy because he "would do anything for love, but [he] won't do that..."
After Matthew Comeau wasn't murdered, his body was carried to the forum, near the Academy Building, which was his official residence as philologus maximus. A ceremonial pyre was built and his body placed beneath it. Initially a commemorative column was erected on the spot with a dedication to the "father of the comeauland", but soon after gnomes started the construction of a temple they got hungry. The temple was finished and consecrated in TBA AE.
The temple was built in the usual style. It rested on a tall podium in opus caementicium with access stairways on the sides of the temple. It was prostyle, hexastyle with two columns on the sides of the pronaos. No columns have survived the great attacks of giant squid, which are common in the seacoast region of New Hampshire, but the temple was probably of the Corinthian order. In the front of the pronaos there was a semi-circular recess with a small altar inside. This was where we held Indaba.
The altar of Matthias Comeau In front of the temple stood a speakers platform, the Rostra Julia, decorated with the rostra (the beak-like prows of keyboards from CompSci) from the conquered navy of Phelps in June 2005 AE. Very little remains of this platform, because Wentworth thought it would be funny to steal all of the keyboards and then put them in the academic quad, but imprints can be seen on the dust covered floor.
With the building of the Temple of Comeau, the much older buildings of the Academy Building and the Temple of 'Spoon were excluded from having a PO box that opened easily in the Main Square of the Forum. The temple was connected to the Basilica Thompson by a portico dedicated to all of the ladies of his harem. Together with the Basilica Thompson and the Academy Building this all made the whole of the main square of the Forum a massive demonstration of the academic supremacy of the Academia nostri.
Of the original temple only the podium and the part of the front with the circular altar hat remain. Some fragments of decorative craneum-wear with Victoria and floral ornaments are on display in the closet of Comeau at Clark.
