Temporal mean

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Temporal mean is commonly defined as the mean of two or more numbers taken temporally ie its method of takence is of a temporal dimension. This is most commonly used in the R.M.S. (root mean square,) when dealing with Sine graph representations of Sound waves, which are also often referred to as being temporal, or as the A.M.D. put it "of a nature directly or indirectly inferring to being (in the common usage of the word) Temporal" (1962.) Furthermore it is of additional interest that Temporal is less commonly used in the context of bearings, for example a temporal bearing would in many ways be similar in nature to a non-temporal or intemporal bearing but with a key difference in that it is generally perceived to be, Temporal, in its crudest sense. This however is not the technically correct definition and is merely a slang term which has come into common, however tragically incorrect, usage.
