Temperament test

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Temperament test is an old and proven form of a mild dog fighting used in young dogs to test their temperament. Above all, it is practiced with wolfdogs (breeds of dog like Central Asian or Caucasian Owtcharka) in Russia and is called тестовые испытания волкодавов. The breeders believe that males used for breeding have to have preserved fighting ability and dominant tendencies because it is a typical mark of their breed. They also believe that if weak dogs without fighting abilities will be used for breeding, the breed will decrease in its quality then. That is why they test them using the temperament test. They release two young dogs and let them behave naturally even if they begin to fight. If the fight looks dangerously, the breeders tear the dogs off each other to prevent their injury. If one of the participating dogs shows fear from the other dog and displays no domination tendencies, he is removed from breeding to be unable to pass his weak nature to his descendants that he would have if used for breeding.
