Telemig Celular
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Telemig Celular S.A. is a major Brazilian telecommunications company headquartered in Belo Horizonte. The company is one of eight wireless telephone companies that emerged from the break-up of Telebras. The name comes from the fact that it was the wireless company for the state of Minas Gerais. A group led by Canada's Telesystem International Wireless, together with Brazilian bank Opportunity and six Brazilian pension funds, paid 756 million reais to buy Telemig Celular when it was sold by the Brazilian government in June 1998.
As of March 2005 Telemig Celular had 2.9 million customers, mostly mobile phone users in Minas Gerais.
Telemig Celular's stock is traded on Bovespa, where it is part of the Ibovespa index.
