Talk:Telšiai
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Telšiai is a city way up in Samogitia, not part of Poland in the Interbellum. It has a nice link to the Polish language for anyone who needs to know the name of the city in Polish. Dr. Dan 01:03, 28 March 2006 (UTC)
I have deleted the Yiddish reference to the name of the city in the lead, as unnecessary. Unfortunately the Yiddish speaking population, in Telsiai is not a factor in the modern day reality of the city. Eastern Eupope's Pale had many Jewish inhabitants, in many cities. The fact that Warsaw had many Jewish inhabitants prior to 1939, would not be reason enough to place its name in Yiddish or Hebrew in the lead, of its present day article. The information about the Jewish community in Telsiai, is important and should be included in the history of the article, where pertinent. In fact it has been. Perhaps a person with a good command of Yiddish can also write an article for Yiddish WP, about Telsiai. Thanks. Dr. Dan 16:41, 1 August 2006 (UTC)
