[edit] About the Tekunin

In MK:Tournament Edition, which revolves around the same story as Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance, Sektor's ending depicted him founding a new ninja clan of cyber-ninja (the Tekunin) in Japan after Sub-Zero ousted him from the reformed Lin Kuei. Eventually, the Tekunin gained enough power to conquer Japan. In Mortal Kombat: Armageddon it is revealed that the Tekunin were indeed formed by Sektor, though it is still unknown whether they conquered Japan.

[edit] Trivia

  • The group's meaning could mean "iron ninja" or "tech ninja" because tek or teku could refer to "tekko" which means "iron" or the slang for tech and "nin" could be used as short for ninja. Either could fit.
  • The rivalry between the Tekunin and the Lin Kuei is reminiscent of the rivalry between the old Lin Kuei and the Shirai Ryu, which had also been founded by a breakaway Lin Kuei member and was also based in Japan.
  • The goals of Noob Saibot, also a former Lin Kuei member, and Sektor are similar: both want to create an army of cybernetic warriors to conquer the world. They both also have the common goal of killing Sub-Zero
  • One of the new fighting arenas in Mortal Kombat: Armageddon is the Tekunin Warship. This appears to be a remake of Mortal Kombat 4's Prison Stage.
  • Despite being unable to claim the title of Grandmaster of the Lin Kuei (a title Sub-Zero bested Sektor for in a heated fight), Sektor apparently has no issues calling himself Grandmaster, as this is how one of the Tekunin address him in Armageddon's Konquest mode.
  • Sektor's Tournament Edition ending states he founded a secret base in Japan- it is likely this is the Tekunin's central base.
  • Although the generic Tekunin member looked like Sektor in Sektor's Tournament Edition ending, in Armageddon's Konquest mode the basic member has a vastly different appearance when compared to Sektor. However, in the above mentioned Tekunin Warship stage, a cyborg that looks like the Tournament Edition Sektor mans the doors leading into where the characters fight. This perhaps indicates that different levels of automation are in effect within the Tekunin. Something that would support this theory is the fact the Tekunin members Taven fights bleed red blood, but Sektor "bleeds" oil, even when killed in a Fatality.
  • During the time the player is on the Tekunin warship in Armageddon's Konquest mode, Sektor and Sonya Blade communicate and their conversation is broadcast throughout the warship. Sektor comments that destroying the warship will only stall the Tekunin's eventual conquering of Earth, implying that Sektor and the Tekunin desire world domination.
  • There are similarities between the Tekunin (and the Lin Kuei's plans to automate its members) and the Cybermen of Doctor Who, most notably the Cybermen from the 2006 series who not only automated themselves for their own survival, but actively tried to "upgrade" humanity. However, these Cybermen were not intrinsically evil- they had been programmed in such a way with the thought that "upgrading" humans to Cybermen removes painful emotions, whereas the Tekunin most definitely do not have any good intentions in mind. As far as removing emotions goes, Sektor is almost emotionless, though he still displays rage and arrogance in Armageddon's Konquest mode; however, he is devoid of a soul.
