Tek-Tips

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Tek-Tips, a forum for technical tips for computer professionals by computer professionals.

It is a collection of forums controlled by the Tecumseh Group, an independent forum management company. From small beginnings, it now has more than a million registered members (a total reached in May 2005). As of December 2006, the total was 1,207,000.

The site is very much for people who work in the computer industry or in IT departments. It is not a place for beginners or for students to get their exam answers, nor does it allow advice on how to bypass passwords or evading software licences.

Posts are in English and it operates on Eastern Standard Time. Just under half the members identify themselves as living in the United States, nearly 10% UK, 8% India, 5% Canada and the rest scattered throughout the world. Registration is free and the site is primarily members-supported, though it does have advertising.

Users who only ask questions, flame others, treat the site as just a technical support resource, and never answer other people's questions tend to have their access to the site restricted by management.
