Teitelboim

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Teitelbaum, Teitelboim (טײטלבױם teytlboym):

teytlboym is from the southern dialect of German word "Dattelbaum, now commonly called Dattelpalme (English: Date Palm)".

On the onomastics in Judaism, there are lastname variations like Palmenbaum.

On Hebrew language, date-palm is called "תָּמָר tamar, tomor".Common Arecaceae are "דֶּקֶל deqel".

Dattel, dadel (Dutch, Nordic), English date (from French), datte (French), dátil (Spanish), etc. are transitted form, from Latin name "phoenix", or "phoenix dactylifera" (real phoenix = date palm").

Finnish form "taateli(palmu)" sounds closely like Yiddish form.
